According to the wires, Torre has agreed to a deal with Dodgers:

More on a possible $14.5M/3 year deal for Torre and the possibility of A-Rod at L.A.:

Being the only Grady I know of, I thought you meant Clay.

Little was gone a week ago. Deal with Torre will almost certainly be confirmed tomorrow or Thursday.
Good for the Dodgers - they're on the right track. Should be interesting to watch how things develop. Get rid of Little, get rid of Kobe Bryant. . . nice to see this city finally getting on the right track.

I feel bad for Grady, but regardless if he was forced out or he left of his own volition...its done.
Torre is coming for the wrong reasons. He's 67 and has nothing to prove. He doesn't need more rings or more money (probably). His only motivation is to "show" the Yankees they were wrong to treat him as they did... and to give Mattingly a different heir apparent spot. Joe probably wants to show Steinbrenner(s) that he made them and not them making him (right, he never won with 3 NL teams). I hope he does well and he does bring star power to the dugout. Plus the Dodgers are poised to be much stronger with their young talent...I'm a HUGE Dodgers fan and even I know they ain't the Yankees nor the Red Sox. Even with ARod they will be strong as hell but not on a par with the Sox soon. Plus, I don't think its a slam dunk that they get ARod because they got Torres. ARod is a mixed blessing anyway.

True. I like the Dodgers too. Any team that's willing to say "screw New York" and leave town is fine with me.
![]() Plus, even though I'm a lifelong Red Sox fan by birthright, I've always liked the NL rules better. Much more interesting and adds much more strategy to the game. The Dodgers need a better farm system though to be competitive long-term. They can't just keep buying the used-up hand-me-downs from Boston (Little, Lowe, Garciaparra, etc.) But I like their chances if they get Torre & A-rod. At least it'll be interesting even if I can't stand the latter guy.

Jeff, the Dodgers farm system after an extended poor period really turned around in the last five years. Props to Dan Evans and later logan White. It hasn't been better since the days of Garvey, Cey, Lopes and Russell. The five-in-a-row Rookies of the Year (Karros, Piazza, Mondesi, Nomo, Hollandsworth) ultimately were not all that. Nomo was not really a rookie and Hollandsworth had no better than a journeyman, vagabond career. None of them had any D except Mondesi and he never fully realized his potential due to ego! Not the case with this current crop.
Loney is a Gold Glover and an All Star in the making - possibly in '08! If someone would put Kemp in center maybe he'd stop crashing into walls and show the incredible defense he shows occasionally. He'll hit 35 bombs very soon. Loney, Martin and Ethier are all good for 20 HR's starting this year. It's gonna be fun to see how this off season develops., no question

Only wish Joe could have got here sooner. At 67, how long can he handle the work/stress it takes to manage a club. I've always like Torre and hope he has close to the success he had in NY. I may become a Dodger fan again and looking forward to spring training for the first time in 25 years.
Suddenly players that were leaving the Dodgers are now changing their minds. Free agents will be shopping the Dodgers because of their new manager. Good things are already happening. Press conference with Torre, Lasorda, and Scully reminds me of the movie Cocoon. Three guys you wish could be in baseball forever, but if they last 5 more seasons it would be a miracle. They also remind me of so many summers listening to baseball on the radio in the garage with my dad while we did projects. Scully and the Dodgers, Torre and the Angels. Good times.....
