I am now very reluctantly beginning to think there should be brackets or a footnote in the record books around the entire steroids era and the accomplishments during that time.
Let's not be so short sighted. Do you REALLY think Brady Anderson hits, what? 50 HR's without "substances" What about Sosa, McWyre, Palmero? I will never turn my back on baseball. To me, its the metronome of America...but rather than focusing on Bonds and allowing people to see all of baseball only through an image of his misdeeds, we should remember there are how many? 32 teams with 40 man rosters and minor league teams aplenty and the cheaters are a small, a significant, but small percentage. EVEN at this point if Barry would come clean and admit he had full knowledge, retire and admit his substance use impacted his records, in my view he could be left unprosecuted or wrist slapped. But with the arrogant defiance and counter-accusations he is almost certainlky going to display, I think the Feds should fully prosecute and go for the throat. I am sorry to say it of anyone, but he has earned this. |
Wait, this is the new world, right? We don't have to adhere to yesterday's morals, ethics, manners, etc. Let's be done with this steroid thing and let them all have what they want.
Roboathletes. It's all like a comic book to me anyway. Motorcycles doing flips in a stadium and Barry Bonds are the same circus show to me. I mean who really gives a damn about F. Landis? He was doing what he had to do just like those before him. Eventually, no one will pay attention to any of it. It will all become just a haze. How are you gonna change the NFL? They've been juicin' for what, forever? Isn't that what being a professional athlete is all about, selling tickets? People don't want to see reality, they want to see the same thing they see in the video games. If the pros have to play straight up and no one gets thrown over the top of the stands, it will all look soooooo boring. |
Remember the "All-Drug Olympics" skit from SNL? Funny stuff.
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/163480/all_drug_olympics/ Reminded me of it. |
professional sports would benefit GREATLY from modest salary caps. $150k/yr tops. i think this would result in a much lower *******:good guy ratio.
i just can't bring myself to give two *****s what some overachieving millionaire does to get better at his sport. these guys don't live in the same world the rest of us do. |
Yes, Maris has, or at least had for 30 years, an asterisk beside his record. Players taking methamphetimines simply will not improve their performance in the long run, not true of anabolic steroids. If I cared to looki it up, I could show you where it was proven a corked bat gives you a disadvantage, rather than an advantage in hitting.
Cheating is cheating, but there is a difference between throwing a spitball and using human growth hormone or other anabolic compounds, that is clear to everyone I hope. |
Jim Rome busted on Bonds hard. He said Barry was jealous of McGuire & Sosa. So he took so much steroids that his head grew to the point that he looked ready to float up & away from the batters box & finish first in a hot air balloon race.

First:
Devils advocate; unlike the old days, now the pitchers are on Roids, why shouldn't the hitters be? Second: Isn't it kinda silly having a grand jury worry about this kinda crap....don't they have anything more important to do or is the US in that great of shap. just my opinion. |
I thought the whole congressional investigation thing was a bit over the top. Yeah, Bonds has a thing about "The Man" being out to get him. How if Mark McGuire or Lance Armstrong were not white guys, they would be vilified as cheaters.
It should be no surprise that someone who has been an arrogant prick to pretty much everyone he comes across would be an object of derision when he gets pinched for perjury and obstruction of justice. People don't hate Barry because he is black, they hate him because he is a dick. |
Barry Bonds has one of the most twisted world views of any professional athlete. Not long ago, he said that his main problem with baseball was that the game never honors its minority heroes. I guess he never noticed the STATUE OF WILLIE MAYS IN FRONT OF HIS HOME BALLPARK. Not to mention the constant admiration felt for Mays, Aaron, Clemente, Reggie Jackson, Luis Tiant... and presently Ken Griffey Jr., Derek Jeter, Pedro Martinez, David Ortiz, and (to some extent) Alex Rodriguez. The guy's mind is simply twisted.
But, yes, I think it is overkill for a Grand Jury to get involved with major league sports scandals. Almost as overkill as the money these guys get paid for playing a game I would gladly take $30K a year to play... |
It is necessary to get involved because this problem is happening in our schools and colleges and whether it's perjury or what, it should have been addressed before it got to this point.
None of the professional sports police themselves, someone has to do it. |

But High School coaches are encouraging their athletes to go see "Dr. Smith" in the off-season. And both the coaches and athletes think it okay because Barry Bonds or whoever does it... |

Watch Barry "evolve". Pay particular attention to his neck, shoulders, and forearms. Seems to me like he started turning into Bill Bixby between 1999 and 2001. |
