2 weeks in Costa Rico over Christmas
Everyonce in a while, people on these boards say "where should I go on vacation"...........hell, I like to lead by example, so I'm off to Costa Rica for beach time scuba diving and jungle tours for 2 weeks.
Staying on the beach at Flamingo Resort, Scuba Diving with 14-20 foot wing span manta rays, bull sharks, and hammerheads. Rappelling down huge waterfalls in the jungles, ATV quad tours, horseback rides, and zip line tours through the jungle canopy, staying at the base of an active erupting volcano where you can see the lava flow at night................. and no, we won't be shopping at the local shopping mall for shoes, watches or tacky tourist gifts, LOVE AND LOVE LIFE don't buy it. Life is short, play hard. Fun stuff! Rappelling down a waterfall anyone? http://www.puretrekcostarica.com/canyoning.html http://www.vacationcity.com/costa-rica/activities/atv/ http://www.vacationcity.com/costa-rica/activities/flamingo/

I owned property in Tamarindo for 14 years, built a house there and lived there for a few years. It is just a short drive south from Flamingo. I fished all over the place and loved it. I would still be there but my wife didn't like it. It was ok for a visit but she just couldn't live there. When we bought the property it was forty miles of dirt road to get there and only one real hotel. I still like the place.
The place gets real busy at Christmas. Probably the busiest time of the year, . Pay attention and Lock everything up. Don't leave anything of value in your car, not even the trunk. REALLY. |

Sounds great, you lucky bustard.
Thinking of doing Vegas for New Years with some friends, kind of a celebration of a big deal thats finalizing next week; so we'll see? Otherwise, its home for Christmas this year; moms for boxing day Turkey. Gonna be a great Christmas this year. We did Florida and Bahamas last year, took mom with us for 3 weeks. Memories of a lifetime! |

Costa Rica was a hot bed of development 5-10 years ago and realestate prices have gone up 400-500 percent in the timeframe, but you can still buy land dirt cheap.
Travel down there is pretty cheap too. the full 2 weeks will run my wife and I about $3500-4000 for all airfare, hotels, meals, and fun money. R/T Airfare from Seattle is only $550 each, a full week at the beach resort big suite with kitchenette including scuba diving is only $850 so hell thats only a little over $100 a day per person for room breakfast and fun.! The last 4-5 christmas's my wife and I have blown off the family tree/gifts/lights standard christmas stuff, and have done traveling to Honduras, Fiji, New Zealand, Belize, Cozumel mexico.......... The amount of money people spend on toys and material gifts just can't replace an experience like seeing the world, and teaching your kids how lucky they are to live in the states. We always take down crayons, balloons, medical supplies, soccer balls, and gifts for the 3rd world kids. These kids truly are asking for socks and bandaids for gifts, not a $400 xbox video game. Just a thought for you fortunate parents to teach your kids a world lesson instead of filling their already overflowing closets with more toys and trinkets that will be buried under their bed unused in a month...... pictures to follow in a month, but really, Belize, Fiji, and now Costa Rica are FANTASTIC places to visit......
