Couldn't sleep Friday night

Couldn't sleep, 4am, so I got up and started going through an organizing CDs. Yeah, the ultimate sleeper/get back to sleep affair. However, I started finding discs not seen in years. Decades. Came across one disc in particular I had picked up for one track, from this one commercial. Remember it well?

Nick Drake. Phenomenal singer-songwriter.

Great commercial too. It really is a commercial that, subconsciously, taps into some kind of yearning, some kind of nostalgia. Really great commercial.

People are always trying to fix my insomnia. Oh, your partner(s) tell me you never sleep; try this or try that? I just think, "why in the world would I want to sleep my life away?"

Usually sleep about 4 hours a day; 6 every 3rd day or so.
But then again, I do the work of ten men. Ha, ha.

Once again, Many sleepless nights to ya!

I have chronic bouts of insomnia that recur ever 3 months or so that last 4 or 5 days in a row. In the long view they are no big deal, but frustrating as hell when they are going on. Nothing I try works. I cannot explain why it happens, it just happens.

Do you Nick Drake fans out there like Elliott Smith? Similar story, similarly moving music. I had the pleasure of seeing him in concert (a festival that included Liz Phair, Beck, Beastie Boys, Blur, and Radiohead). Unfortunately I didn't "discover" his music until much later... after his untimely death.

It was called "Field Day," and was supposed to be held in a large park on Long Island. Town got antsy about a week before the concert and they moved it at the last moment to Giants Stadium. This would have been 2002, I think.

It rained the whole time. A couple songs into his set, Beck slipped and hit his head and needed to be brought to the hospital. Although the bands all sounded good, the day appeared to be a disaster... then, two songs into the headliner Radiohead's set, as Thom Yorke sang "rain down, rain down," the rain stopped and the sky opened up as if on cue. The rest of the set was pure energy and bliss.
