crying wolf again

http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/01/09/us.iran/index.html

The war of words between United States and Tehran continued Wednesday, with President Bush repeating his assertion that Iran is "a threat to world peace."

gee, "a threat to world peace". what an overstatement!

it was stupid display by guys in speed boats easily handled by the Navy personnel.

ramping up the US reponse just leads to some stupid action like downing an Iranian airliner. oops, we already did that.

Hawktel 01-09-2008 12:42 PM

they should have just sank the boats, and then gave a nice "oops, sorry, our bad"

The Middle Easterners understand us sinking them, and the My bad makes the rest of the world okay with it.

What did they expect Rational action from Bush?

Someday grasshopper, you will understand the ways of the world. Until now, entertain yourself with the lint in your belly button and be happy.

You sure do not forking understand 1% of what is going on over there right now!

stevepaa 01-09-2008 01:03 PM

uh, yeah right Joe. I guess I have to be there to understand how the statement by Bush is anything but stupid. Go watch the video.

This could have been handled outside of another stupid "axis of evil" speech.

Tobra 01-09-2008 01:16 PM

I knew before I looked at this what it was about and looked anyway, my bad.

Sorry Stevo, you are clueless on this one too. A hostile foreign power tries to precipitate an international incident. I think Joe is being charitable if he really believes your level of understanding is 1%, that is an overstatement for certain

stevepaa 01-09-2008 01:26 PM

maybe you guys are clueless. read what I say, not what you think I am saying.

It is clear that they were trying to provoke a reaction from the warships. Who they were is not definable, but maybe from Iran , but unclear whether this was authorized from above or just a local stupid action. And it was appropriately handled by the Navy.

But here we go again with Bush elevating the reponse and trying to foment fear.

Joeaksa, you're spot on.

Naysayers about Iran being a world threat. Go do some research (and not with news clippings for GODs sake) about the link between Iran, Hezbollah, terrorism. I'm not gonna' do your homework for you, just go and knock yourself out...studying. If that doesn't work, MAN-UP; join the service, go to the Middle East and live it yourself for a while. You'll come home with first-hand knowledge instead of spoon-fed crap from the media.

Porsche-O-Phile 01-09-2008 01:39 PM

And they shoot and blow up the speedboats and what do you think the headlines say on Al Jazera?

"U.S. attacks unarmed pleasure craft"

With lots of pictures. Tough call for the navy commander, but I probably would have suspected it was a ruse. Not to say I wouldn't have fired on them if they got too close though.

dhoward 01-09-2008 01:45 PM

200 yards?
Close enough for a stinger.

stevepaa 01-09-2008 01:52 PM

You'll come home with first-hand knowledge instead of spoon-fed crap from the WH.

there fixed it for you.

oops

Steve,

Well Snapper did mention your deliberate misquote, he forgot to mention that is his current location and happens to be handicapped with first hand information and a decade or two of training plus experience.

It is “interesting” to watch the transformation of someone when presented with raw facts vice fantasy BS.

I think it would be hot if Condi Rice and Anne Coulter made out.

since when have you been into gay male porn?

Honestly guys, this is the same as:
the North Koreans buzzing our destroyers in '64. that turned out real well, didn't it.

Saddam taking pot-shots at our no-fly-zone enforcement. stunning success.

They have read our playbook boys. But the posturing here is adorable. I'll give you that.

Seric 01-09-2008 02:40 PM

It's to bad, even with the high tech targeting systems, practice makes perfect. I bet they were all bored and drunk and decided "Hey, let's go mess with those warships".

Looks like Darwin let these guys of the hook.

No, as P-O-P stated above, this was absolutely deliberate. Achmadinijad wanted the US to fire on the warships so he could create a "crisis" and distract the Middle East media away from the Bush meetings.

stevepaa 01-09-2008 03:15 PM

too bad some of you guys can't see the forest for the trees.

the axis of evil speech was a mistake and this is a followon in the same manner.
