they didn't beat the spread. That makes them losers in my book.
book. heh. |
Hey dd74 - I believe you called a San Diego win didn't you ?
You owe us Pats fans a set of Zoanas double D's. Pay up ! |

The Chargers sucked! A waste of four hours of my life. Norv Turner is leaving '07 with the Chargers the same way he left the Raiders - as a loser. Whatever. The Aussie Open is on. It's much more entertaining. |
The Pats always find a way to win. They make the big plays. Like the old Yankees and Celtics. The defense starts playing, it seems, in the 2nd half--especially the last quarter.
The Giants are dangerous--they are in a hot streak, playing over their heads. But they could cool off with a 2 week layoff, and the Pats beat them in NY the last game of the year. The Pats will be sky high in Arizona. They have a huge stake to win and go unbeaten. |
The key is that the Patriots are a TEAM. Brady's performance yesterday was blah at best. They still won. It's because they don't over-rely on any one (or two, or three) individuals. If one person (or a few) is out due to injuries, coverage, a bad day, whatever, there are many other layers of redundancy built-in.
Brady? Mediocre yesterday. Moss? Pretty much a non-factor. Welker? Good, but fairly contained for most of the game. They still won. On the other side consider the Chargers - without L.T., they're done. They do have other good players, but nothing the defense can't contain easily enough, as was demonstrated. Lesson: Build a TEAM of good players, not a collection of one or two superstars and a bunch of "other", mediocre guys. |

Without their starting running game, a QB with two bum legs, and missing one of their go-to receivers they were down by 2 points going into the 4th. How many pics did they get of Brady... If those two initials scores were for 7 instead of 3 the Pats were very beatable. I definitely NOT a Charger fan but if they had a healthy LT, Rivers, and Gates I think they would have smoked NE yesterday. The Chargers 'D played tough. |
The Chargers' defense wasn't that tough. As evidenced by 3 out of 4 trips to the red zone being turned into TDs by NE.
Compare/contrast that with NE's defense, who held the Chargers to 3 field goals. |
You must be delusional. The Pats win because Brady is the greatest of all time. That defense has nothing to do with it.
|
Guys were talking about the undefeated Patriots, the team some consider to be one of the best ever , playing against a team that didn't *deserve* to be there. The end was that NE didn't cover the spread and SD was within a score of the lead until the 4th. Hardly a blow out when you consider the injuries SD was playing with.
I'm not making excuses for SD, they had some overly conservative play calling that hurt, questionable LT heart, but I think they played NE very very well. |
Yes, they did. I give a lot of credit to the Chargers.
However, without L.T., they can't hang. Period. They need to broaden their base and stop relying on one guy so much. |
Brady outplayed by Rivers ( +1 for him, hope he won't need to be such a putz to feel adequate now) though not when it mattered most and still the Pats win.
Falk and Moroney and a couple of old geezers on D. Pats win because they are a TEAM ! A VERY well coached and smart and proud team. Speaking of injuries. Anyone care that Turner CHEATED by lying on the injury report ? What if Belichick had done that ? Even with LT - PATS WIN ! How's it feel to be 18 and 0 and be going to the Super Bowl ? OOOHHHHHHHHH YYYYEEEEAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAHHHH !!!! Cry baby soup for the rest of you haterz. |
I think the giants are going to give them some trouble. I know about the regular season game - but if Manning keeps this confidence streak going - they are going to be tough to beat. They have proven that they can play the big games - on the road they beat the Bucs, the cowboys AND the Pack in Lambeau - in minus 3 - I think anything is possible.
|
anyone think that LT laid down a bit... I mean, we dont know anything about the extent of his injuries, he could very well be seriously hurt...but his demeanor was to just sit there, shaded helmet on and not involved with his team...kinda showed a little bit of selfishness, or at least appeared to be that way... he wasnt involved in the game at all, didnt offer anything to his teammates in terms of support...

I dont get this line of thinking...personally I dont like the Baltimore Ravens players on D, but if they were 18-0 Id be all over saying they were one of the best ever... to not appreciate greatness really takes away from the whole football experience imo. So many people have been dissing the Pats for years, not giving them the credit that they have earned... it is a weird thing to still see this. |
Giants do look very good.
Two strong running backs. Great line on both sides of the ball. Good receivers. Secondary is playing well but is a weak spot. As is the head coach - but his staff is first rate. Manning seems to have found his game. Team of my youth against the team of where I ended up. Tough one for me. But must stick with the Pats (May my father forgive me) - they deserve to finish it up. It should be a great game. |
