That's David Piper and the missus. Quite a character.

Had a farm of some kind in England, and the government wanted to build a highway through it. Sold out for what was then a great deal of money, retired, and bought a stable of 917's new from the factory. Has been racing them ever since.

Well that's the story I heard anyways. I stand to be corrected.

Actually, he's owned and raced more Ferraris than Porsches. I don't know how he got his money, although he did get a sizeable check after crashing a 917 during the making of the movie Le Mans.

Piper is recorded as having one car but it has been run in many different configurations/paint schemes which could make it appear he had multiple.

Piper is the Original Owner of that Green 917. And yes bsck in the day it was raced in many different colors - whatever the sponser liked. You can see different configurations on a2zracing.com

There was a piece on him in "Octane" a year or so ago that had him pictured with three 917's, all in the green and white livery of Piper Racing. I attended a vintage race Hockenheim four or five years ago in which he participated and some people told me about him them. Very down to earth farmer apparently, who has a deep need for speed.
