They used carriers to transport them. That group was probably heading across the Pacific to some place like Iwo Jima where they were used to escort B-29s over Japan. Here are some being loaded to go to fight in Korea in 1950.

^^^ All that reminded me of the '64 Buick Electra 225 we had as the family car in the late '60's. Dad's brother worked at the Chevy-Olds-Buick-Caddy dealership and would always let him know if a real nice car came in on trade. Ours was the four door hardtop like this, except it was silver blue. Man, what a boat that thing was... but it had a 455 in it IIRC, and it would get up and go when nobody was looking... in a straight line only, of course.

The car we had before that was a '59 LeSabre hardtop like these, except ours was a beautiful medium green metallic. I remember helping the old man install seatbelts in it after he got it.

P-40s of the 33rd Fighter Group were launched from U.S. Navy escort carriers and landed at Port Lyautey on November 10. Additional air support was provided by the carrier USS Ranger, whose squadrons intercepted Vichy aircraft and bombed hostile ships.
