Because ME262's got shot down loitering around airports all the time. Jets were vulnerable creatures.

FWIW the Soviet I-250 also had some drama involved during production and flopped.

The MiG-105 was an orbital spaceplane similar in concept to the X-20 Dyna-Soar.
