Not bad for my old plane. 162 knots true or 186mph. And it was a hot day, 80 degrees on the ground,

'Best of both worlds' was probably their original intention.
Because ME262's got shot down loitering around airports all the time. Jets were vulnerable creatures.

FWIW the Soviet I-250 also had some drama involved during production and flopped.
Not quite a perfect system apparently.

The VRDK was a motorjet, a rudimentary type of jet engine where an external power source drove the engine's compressor...................

However the VRDK was limited to only ten minutes' operating time per sortie, which meant that it was useless weight during the rest of the flight.[2]

The jet was intended solely for high-speed dashes, with only enough fuel for about 10 minutes of use.

A second crewman was added to control the nose-mounted air intercept radar, and the crew was put in a side-by-side, unpressurized cockpit.

The MiG-105 was an orbital spaceplane similar in concept to the X-20 Dyna-Soar. The idea behind the aircraft was it would be attached to the back of an air-breathing mothership (designed by Tupolev), which would bring the aircraft up to Mach 6 at a very high altitude, and then the aircraft would detach and enter orbit under rocket propulsion.

The Boeing X-20 Dyna-Soar ("Dynamic Soarer") was a United States Air Force (USAF) program to develop a spaceplane that could be used for a variety of military missions, including aerial reconnaissance, bombing, space rescue, satellite maintenance, and as a space interceptor to sabotage enemy satellites.[1] The program ran from October 24, 1957 to December 10, 1963, cost US$660 million ($5.16 billion today[2]), and was cancelled just after spacecraft construction had begun.
