That’s one helluva rig – too bad he couldn’t find an extended cabover camper for it. IMO it would look better, not to mention add quite a bit more usability without any added frontal loads.

#whenpassengercarsweresostoutthecouldhaulanrv
When I was a kid growing up in the Boy Scouts, several of the dads had home – built RVs. There is one truck chassis, but I suppose that’s all that was before Winnebagos took off. They certainly did the trick – I have many fond memories of covering great distances in them with a dozen or more boys, and loving every minute of it! And seatbelts, fugetaboutit!

![]() This 1982 244DL followed me home the other day. Guy was asking $2500; got it for $1800. When we were first married we bought in 1982 (light ivory) for $2500 and simply loved it. We only got rid of it when our second child was on the way. Both are/were 4-speed manuals with electric overdrive. A few months earlier my daughter saw a picture of her mother standing next to ours – I think the day we bought it – and she remarked how “hipster” it was. So when I spied for sale down in Silverado Canyon, I figured what the heck. It’s first test was the drive home, an hour of some of the worst stop and go traffic in Southern California, and it performed flawlessly. The plan is to fix a lot of little trim things, add in a Bluetooth/USB charger/amp/speakers, get it good and road-worthy and then let my daughter drive it around the streets of San Diego until she next deploys. Then, who knows... Circa 1988 I think:

I was just looking at these pics I took a couple of weeks ago of a Central Coast '58 4-cam speedster, and I noticed something I hadn't realized before:
![]() ![]() ![]() On these 4-cam cars, they apparently didn't want the engine-intake-air to mix with the cooling air - is that right? I think the intake grill is for the engine cooling fan only, with louvered openings in the deck lid for the carb air. Notice the seals between the carbs and the lid? Anyone know why? Startup!

Location: Placerville, CA.... You know, the only place on Highway 50 between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe the you find signal lights. Above the fog most of the time and I can see the stars of the Milky Way 8 out of 10 nights. Kinda cool.....

That picture is freaking bad ass... Thanks for posting. My great uncle worked on those in WWII. I wonder if he ever saw that type of battle damage. ![]() Only in Dubai... ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
