If you know, you know...note the HAZMAT placard.

..related, an editorial cartoon during the same time period...a husband was gifting his wife a new car, and she exclaimed, "Oh, a new Pinto with Firestone 500 tires!!"

As a kid, a neighbor banker and ANG pilot had a Gen1 Toronado. I remember seeing it barrel past our house every afternoon for years and each time thinking "That thing is huge and weird."

Had an Aunt and Uncle that had a 1st Gen Toronado back when the car was new and I thought it looked cool. My Uncle was in the Air Force, I had 2 Uncles in the Air Force on my Dad's side of the family, married to my Dad's sisters and they were both name Bill, Uncles that is, not Aunts. Lol.
Uncle Bill was a cool/quirky sort of guy, always showing us kids magic tricks or telling riddles to make ya think and he was an excellent photographer.

My Aunt and Uncle's Toronado was this body style, Gen 1. I've always thought the doors were unique with that rear handle so the rear passenger could actually open the door, very different, way before child safety locks!!!

That pale yellow car is the style I recall, don't recall the 1968-70 version that I posted earlier at all at the moment (lived in Ford country).

A guy down the street got a new car every year (single guy), had an Eldorado one year as well.

The Cadillac Eldorado was chosen as the official pace car for the Indianapolis 500 in 1973. Cadillac produced 566 of these special pace car convertibles. Thirty-three were used at the track during the race week, with the remainder distributed to U.S. Cadillac dealers one per dealership. Total Eldorado sales soared to 51,451, over a sixth of all Cadillac sales for 1973.
1973 oil crisis
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1973_oil_crisis
Quote:
The 1973 oil crisis or first oil crisis began in October 1973 when the members of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries led by Saudi Arabia proclaimed an oil embargo. The embargo was targeted at nations that had supported Israel during the Yom Kippur War.[1] The initial nations targeted were Canada, Japan, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States with the embargo also later extended to Portugal, Rhodesia and South Africa. By the end of the embargo in March 1974,[2] the price of oil had risen nearly 300%, from US$3 per barrel ($19/m3) to nearly $12 per barrel ($75/m3) globally; US prices were significantly higher. The embargo caused an oil crisis, or "shock", with many short- and long-term effects on global politics and the global economy.[3] It was later called the "first oil shock", followed by the 1979 oil crisis, termed the "second oil shock".

Very cool, I was at SEMA when Jay Leno debuted his.
Even more impressive to see it in person.
