Seahawk,

Yes, the A.T.B in the photo belongs to our marine company. The picture shows the barge loaded with equipment to support a construction job at GTMO, Cuba.

JeffGrant: That tug and barge belongs to Alaska Marine Lines (AML) a division of Lynden Inc. here in Alaska. Our ATB (in the picture I posted) worked for Lynden's construction company (Knik) in GTMO Bay, Cuba. Oddly, there were two Alaska companies working in Cuba last summer. Barges are very important facet of Alaska's supply chain, and barges of that size move back and forth between Anchorage, AK and Seattle regularly.

A.B.

This morning, Mrs Notfarnow announced that she won't drive the samurai again until I clean it inside and paint it outside. I'm thinking olive drab.

I also think I might take off the plastic top in the rear, and use it as a mini-pickup. I'd have to put in a new veggie tank though.

Yep, it sure is ugly... but it's the best $400 I ever misspent.

oh it looks worse than it really is. I bought a mig welder in the fall and welded in all new rockers, patched the floors and welded up the bed. It gets rust-checked each year and the frame is in perfect shape. The last 2 years it needed <$75 to get past the safety inspection, and insurance is $12/mth. I just can't justify getting rid of it. It'll probably last me another decade... which drives my wife CRAZY.

But man, it sure can take a beating. On friday, I took 760lbs of steel to the scrapyard... it was squatted down like a dog rubbing its arse on the lawn. Last year when I did the roof, I loaded the shingles in the back and on a trailer... 1400lbs wieghed at the dump. Heck, I can even use it to launch my 3000lb sailboat.

Sammy the Samurai's stablemate, this morning before breakfast:

Love the Sammy Jake ! My 92 Cherokee is ALMOST in that good of condition. It drives everyone crazy but me. Oh Well, when there's a foot of snow on the ground, let 'em walk.
