Daytona meets Suzuka: The Mooncraft Shiden RT-16
https://supergtworld.wordpress.com/2016/09/29/daytona-meets-suzuka-the-mooncraft-shiden-rt-16/

Quote:
It is the pending farewell to the Daytona Prototypes that brings us to look back at a car that was, in essence, a Daytona Prototype repurposed for Super GT – and a car that became one of the most controversial, yet revered challengers in GT300 history: The Mooncraft Shiden RT-16.

The Shiden was the brainchild of Mooncraft Engineering’s Takuya Yura, one of the most respected designers in Japanese motorsport. The car took its name from one of Yura’s earliest prototype designs, the Shiden 77, which raced in the Fuji Grand Championship Series – one of the earliest organized sports car racing championships in Japan.

Spied: Mazda BT-50 in California
Spied: Mazda BT-50 in California - PickupTrucks.com News

Quote:
"With the Ford Ranger on course for U.S. hitting showrooms in just a few years, we were intrigued by two Mazda BT-50 pickups we saw at Mazda's North American headquarters in Irvine, Calif.

"The Mazda BT-50 pickup is mechanically based on Ford's T6 global Ranger; both models have been sold in global markets outside of North America. With Ford now working on the Ranger for American showrooms for the 2019 model year, we're left to wonder if Mazda is evaluating the prospect of piggy-backing on this development to bring the BT-50 to U.S. shores. The synergies make sense; the path has been set by Ford, and now a pair of BT-50 4x4 crew cabs have shown up at Mazda's U.S. headquarters. Consider us intrigued.

"While some of the variants of the BT-50 are built for right-hand-drive markets, both the silver BT-50 Pro 4x4 and the black BT-50 4x4 pictured are left-hand-drive models that would be appropriate for the American market.

"While Mazda has made no public pronouncements about bringing the BT-50 to the U.S., the fact that these pickups are now in the hands of Mazda North America, with a pending U.S. Ranger on the horizon, is certainly curious."

When I was a kid growing up in the Boy Scouts, several of the dads had home – built RVs. There is one truck chassis, but I suppose that’s all that was before Winnebagos took off. They certainly did the trick – I have many fond memories of covering great distances in them with a dozen or more boys, and loving every minute of it! And seatbelts, fugetaboutit!

This 1982 244DL followed me home the other day. Guy was asking $2500; got it for $1800. When we were first married we bought in 1982 (light ivory) for $2500 and simply loved it. We only got rid of it when our second child was on the way. Both are/were 4-speed manuals with electric overdrive.

A few months earlier my daughter saw a picture of her mother standing next to ours – I think the day we bought it – and she remarked how “hipster” it was. So when I spied for sale down in Silverado Canyon, I figured what the heck.

It’s first test was the drive home, an hour of some of the worst stop and go traffic in Southern California, and it performed flawlessly. The plan is to fix a lot of little trim things, add in a Bluetooth/USB charger/amp/speakers, get it good and road-worthy and then let my daughter drive it around the streets of San Diego until she next deploys. Then, who knows...

Circa 1988 I think:

I was just looking at these pics I took a couple of weeks ago of a Central Coast '58 4-cam speedster, and I noticed something I hadn't realized before:

On these 4-cam cars, they apparently didn't want the engine-intake-air to mix with the cooling air - is that right? I think the intake grill is for the engine cooling fan only, with louvered openings in the deck lid for the carb air. Notice the seals between the carbs and the lid? Anyone know why?

Startup!
