Appears to be a 142 sedan, with a 145 roof grafted on.

it's just stupid... and apart from being obnoxious loud, that big pipe doesn't seem to have any kind of muffler, probably sounds like crap as well..

The intake is at the front of the motor. You are looking at the back of the motor.

the grey bit.. is the part of the intake right?
the exhaust manifold.. is right along next to it.

So the exhaust heats up the intake

Most cars, keep the intake on top and the exhaust separated below to prevent that

EDIT found vid of it running, barely.. it seems to be easy to stall
https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/classic-cars/a32447576/de-tomaso-pantera-8-into-1-exhaust-sound/

Sounds lumpy to me..not a fan of that kind of sound.. defo not refined.

so it's an LS engine, so those grey are the valve covers, ok, stand corrected.
Still think it's the exhaust is bling not performance tho.

Ya that sounds terrible. I bet it's horrific from about 3K RPM to redline. Who ever came up with getting a mountain of reliable HP and torque from a compact engine definitely failed with the LS.

To be honest I think the whole thing is more about looks than actually driving. A local guy did the same intake on his LS and really fought with it. Just could not get it to idle. All those individual throttle bodies look cool but I do not think they work that well.

I'm not dissing the engine, i'm dissing the exhaust.
the thing barely idles which , for a street car is quite the pain in the neck

no drivability..

I can appreciate that race cars don't need idle.. they just set em at 2000 rmp and for the most part they don't need much midrange.. WOT WOT WOT is plenty good for them.

And the exhaust note at WOT sounds good for most cars, because well, it's LOUD

but this isnt' a race car, it's a street car, that barely runs
and you just cannot do much WOT on the street.. not if you wanna keep your drivers license.. so if the engine can't idle.. has chitty midrange.. and only sounds good at loose your license driving..

at that point i call it a failure.

Agreed, looks above everything.
basically single stack in and single exhaust out, its like running 8 single cylinder engines on a shared crank instead of optimizing the intake and exhaust for optimal pumping velocities.
And no backpressure at all, It can't run smooth over a wide power band

I agree with the assertions that the exhaust is likely not optimised for squeezing every last HP out of the engine. However, my LS7 sounds similar to this Pantera's and is driven on the street without issue. Even if the guy loses 30 HP in the exhaust (not likely), he won't want for power.
