Needless to say that these pictures will appear again....................and again.

Side note; is that a picture of your wing project?

As a matter of fact it is a pic of a project I am working on. It is an SBD-1 that was recovered from lake Michigan. We think it is the only one left. it is located at Miramar flying leatherneck museum.

^^ I think I may have asked this before but the SBD ultimately belongs to the US Navy, correct? I know there are a lot of cool planes still sitting at the bottom of Lake Michigan.

My father in law flew SBDs for the Marines back in the day...and Avengers. Cool planes.

Damn that is cool, if I lived closer I would be respectfully requesting an internship...

In 04 when I started in the unit I'm in now, the helicopter mechanic at the time always had his fingers in some form of money making scheme with regards to aircraft. I am not sure of the full details but he allegedly had something to do with recovery efforts of a Brewster Buffalo that crashed in a high lake in Russia. Guess the Russian Crime Syndicates caught wind and figured that they needed it more than the recovery team. They were all able to get out before all sorts of bad happened, barely before. Of course this was after all the heavy lifting was done and yes, the Buffalo was left in Russia.

Like I mentioned, his story so no idea if there is any weight to it, although it does make a cool one at that. He seemed to have many of the finer details on the operation as it unfolded.

Have you ever had a chance to visit the Chino Planes of Fame? They have many cool items there. My dad and I saw the Northrop flying wing they have restored two years before they publicly announced it. Drove me batty trying to pin it down because "no one" seemed to know what I was talking about.

It was insanely fast as it headed out towards Lake Mathews on a cloudy day. Although due to to the white backdrop, the blue bottom looked black.

At least I had another witness at the time to substantiate the sighting. They also have Admiral Yamamoto's bomber he was shot down in as it was discovered in the jungle.
