Had mine pierced when I was 18. Wore it till I was in my early 20's. Then got a job in HVAC and folks on the construction site weren't overly keen on a guy wearing an earring. Now it's just a novelty thing where I pop one in from time to time just to make my daughter laugh.

No earrings or tattoos here. But I do keep my hair longer than most my age. (68)
I still have a full head of hair...so I feel, why not?

In college years..mine was mid-back length.

Couldn't care less if a guy wears an earring or not. I think that fad is waning anyway...used to see it a lot more often, but not so much now.

At least with an earring, you can simply remove it once you realize that it's not your style anymore. Not so easy with all those tattoos you thought looked so cool when you were younger, but seem a bit ridiculous now that you've grown up and your tastes have changed.

Of course just removing the earring when you tire of it won't work for everyone. For all those short-sighted folks who got a mega-piercing so they could wear a hubcap in their ear, a visit to the plastic surgeon will be needed

Back in college, Friday Happy Hour was a ritual.... one of my bud's wife worked at an ear piercing place. I honestly don't remember how it all went down, but four of us got ours pierced after 4-5 hours of Budweisers.

I wore mine until I sobered up .... think it was about 8-9 months later .

Who cares ...

The ink poisons your blood, I talked to a few doctors about it, and they agreed its bad
Wow... seriously?

I guess millions of people out there have poisoned blood because of some ink.. Though I did get a tat when I was in Xi'an, China a few years ago... that ink maybe be suspect..

Funny thing... I'm seeing a dermatologist for skin cancer treatments.. a Doctor who specializes in skin... He complimented me on some of my ink...He didn't chastise me for my choice of getting some ink..

I wouldn't take my demo complimenting or not chastising me for ink as acquiescence or even as approval.

The damage (if any) was done. Ask him next visit if tats are bad. I'd be interested in his answer.

I already did... I asked right after he commented..

His only issues were the some tats make his job harder...obv..the skin is changed obscured, and he cant see it clearly..

And he mentioned, he cant imagine why anyone would endure the pain...and questioned how sanitary the places were where I got my ink..

The dermatologist I've been seeing seems to be of the opinion that the sun is the worst thing imaginable for your skin...Tats though traumatic to your skin for a week or two.. may make his job a bit more difficult are an individuals choice.

Hundreds of years ago, men wore earrings and used them for barter/currency. Especially in the middle ages. For men, it died down in the Renaissance period.

Spent the better part of today at the dermatologist...mostly sun related, some "growth related".

I don't have any tats or earrings but a lot, and I mean a lot of sun damage.

I started to try and get ahead of this a few year ago and I am glad I did.

1960/70/80's on river kayaks and rafts, zippy sunscreen.

Yikes.

Lots of precancerous freezing, blade work and lotions/potions...even some burning!

Get screened folks...I did three years ago and, while a pain, compared to the colonoscopy rigamarole, this is a walk.

I like fancy watches, first to admit its a silly frivolity.

Seams even more silly to care what others are wearing however. Except that one time I saw a guy out and about in a thong. Wouldn't have been so bad except he was riding a bike. I would like to unsee that.

also yes 100% on copious amounts of 100proof sunscreen, wish I would have been better about this in my younger days.

Over the last year I've had 8 appointments with a derm so far..

Have had questionable areas, frozen, cut, light treatment etc..

So far the treatments that have been most effective have been red/blue light treatment.. some sort cream is applied to your skin, then it needs to dwell for 2-3 hours.. then you're exposed to certain frequencies of either blue or red light for 10 minutes..

After a few days you look sort of like Deadpool without a mask.. all the scabs that emerge are cancerous/pre-cancerous skin...

All is a result of me growing up on the waters, summers out on my boat every day, beach, never using sunscreen or wearing a hat....

I'm paying for that now

I'd post a pic...but its plain ugly

vvv Key is, and we did the lights today after the cream, the alternative is worse.

It is funny, kayaking we always wore a helmet, but the temple was exposed, and neck. The only hat I ever wore running rivers was a "visor", same exposure.

That is where all the mess is.

I told the doc today while he was searing an area where he took out something that needed to biopsied: "I prefer my neck medium rare..."

He dead panned, "so do I."

Probably not the first time he heard that.

Four weeks ago I started on Efudix (pronounced F' you Dicks) cream. For those of you who don't know what it is, but maybe could do with using some. It's a cream that attacks skin cancer cells, mild ones like a basal cell carcinoma. You put it on once a day for two or three weeks. Hurts a bit and looks like a chemical burn, then turns into a sore, then brand new skin appears. It's a two month wait to see my skin doc so I used this stuff instead on a couple of bad ones. Works well.
