Thanks! You can see what I started with and what I made it for maybe 1500 bucks. If you do get one I have a friend that restores them full time that qould give you a great deal on parts.

If the only thing that wrong with it is its an auto I'd snatch it up. The autos have vacuum servos that tend to shift slowly and sort of rough. You'd want the 5 speed out of a 320i and then you'd really love it. In fact my 02 was almost as much fun on the highway just buzzing around than in the mountains. Mine came back up for sale a few months ago and if didnt need a truck occasionally that would be my dd again.

Good luck!

The auto chassis is perfect for a 5 - spd swap because the trans tunnel area is a bit more roomy. If you do the 5 -spd swap from a 320, then also look for a 390 diff. You'll get a bit better acceleration and 5th will still give a nice highway cruising gear. The 390 was pretty much standard in '76s. It may even have been standard in autos, I'm not sure.

.... and between two of its brothers:

2.5 liter stroked motor (M3 crank) w/ 40DFAV Carburetor.
(Once Lynx starts making their sidedraft manifolds again, I'm going dual sidedraft)
Pertronix
Metric Mechanic 5spd
3.9 Limited Slip
tii brakes and Bilsteins all 'round
Front and rear strut braces
Immaculate interior w/ new seats from Aardvarc

If I could keep only one car, it'd be the 2002. Hands-down my favorite car, and built like a bank vault. I'll have someone out, have them close their eyes and take her to 110~ish.

They can't (1) tell how fast we're going and (2) believe that a 35 year old car is that smooth.

If you want an '02 to trundle around in, and you've got a perfect bodied specimen, OK, get the auto.

The problem with these G'damned 2002 threads is that it rekindles yet another car jones And I just finished the last 12 step program.

I had a 1972 Tii (green, tan interior with a sunroof) in high school (bought it with my own money) and wish I still had it.

Great car, Slacker...I just may have to miss my next BMW 2002 Anonymous meeting and fall off the wagon

Here just take a little drive in this.....won't hurt a bit..

The only thing better than a standard 2002 bodystyle is the Touring....

Don't get an automatic.... it's a fun car but not exactly lightning in a bottle, unless you get a tii... 105 hp or so ? Add auto and it'll barely get out of its own way...

here's mine ! (manual)

Most people who get an automatic do so because the tunnel is wider and you can fit the 5 speed upgrade from a 320 more easily !

MAKE IT STOP! Because I'm just stupid enough to buy one and use it as a DD.

Ditto. I'm so close to putting the 330i up for sale and replacing it with a 2002. Wife will never understand that one.

My wife would have flashbacks to my '70 911T daily driver. Like doing an engine drop two weeks into my ownership. Probably not GOOD flashbacks.

You guys are starting to scare me, we think too much alike.

I bought this last week but I have to get it away from the Zuffenhaus boys before it winds up with 650hp and a 6 speed sequential box.

This one is local - if a divorce didn't cost so much it would probably be mine
