Cure for Porsche Boredom depression!
Note the 'young boy in candy store' passionate face in the passenger seat (being yours truly). I also got to drive it. The acceleration of that beast is beyond brutal. The 599 has basically the Enzo engine, tuned down some 25 bhp to around 620 bhp.

Very dangerous my friend.....
The 599 is considered to be one of the greatest GTs Ferrari have ever made... Now go back to the Carrera, throw out all the unnecessary things and lighten it up. It will not be as powerful or accelerating as the 599 but it will reward you in the twisties... I experience it as well as I swap from the Ford GT (modded a little.. now pumping 690HP) and the Carrera... There is nothing as intoxicating as 600 lb/ft of torque pushing you in your back, but when the turns come the 911 is the king, no matter how many HP you have in the back! |

I think you are absolutely right, Matteo. That thing just scared me. I guess one needs to be a very competent driver to fully take advantage of and enjoy that much power.
I am really a stickler for 'stock configuration' and I have been meaning to keep my ROW Carrera as it left the factory. However, I have been pounding the thought of making it lighter and I have read most of the threads on that topic. It seems though, that it takes rather radical cleaning out in order to achieve any meaningful weight reduction.

Yes and no...
Things like seats (front and rears) weigh a lot and you car readily tell the difference. Plus they are just screwed in... You can store everything in the loft and put it back anytime you want. Also the spare tire can go, and so the door panels. The rest becomes a little more radical, but you'll be able to save 80-100kg... Don't tell me you do not feel the difference when u have a passenger on board with you. |

You are right. I have read a lot of threads on removing the whole A/C kit, but that seems less effective and more difficult to restore if needed. Besides mine actually work relatively well.

Markus my friend, do like me and strip that car - keep the parts you rip out in a safe place and have fun with the extra power you find
![]() Although, I have hit the point of no return I think ![]()

In this case the curve of diminishing returns is quite steep.
I took the old A/C on my 88 off, weighed and it was not worth it, especially when it works. I am considering fitting it now to my stripped '74. Some items make sense (seats, spare wheels, door panels, glove box, smaller battery, smaller windscreen washer tank) but then you start going beyond the PONR. For example taking the sound insulation off might sound intriguing, but then it is a pain in the neck to do it, it weighs little and then if you drive the car a lot the noise in the cabin becomes tiring... But without getting into a strip vs non-strip debate I think you need a new goal/project with the 911. And the old cars are perfect for this... I was just working on my car this morning and I loved it as it is a car built by men for men. It's all screws, bolts and nuts. No glued plastic that once taken off you can't put back together anymore... So Markus go ahead... make the Carrera Markus' Porsche....!!! |

It should be the new offering from Elephant Racing, right? It is quite trick.
It makes camber adj much easier and quicker (also increasing the amount of neg camber you can dial in) and I think it alleviates the cronic tendence of the 911 susp of losing neg camber when moving. Last edited by 911teo; 04-11-2008 at 05:19 AM.. |

Matteo,
It really sounds intriguing! I think I will start by browsing the Bentley manual to see if I can grasp how difficult it would be. Take out one piece at a time. Perhaps starting with the back seats.

That is correct Matteo, a bag full of ER candy. It is the ASP with the QuickChange Spring Plate and new Koni adjustable shocks. I just hope to have the car ready soon, as the driving desire is killing me
![]() Markus, I am with Matteo on this one, most of the stuff that you can take our or replace with smaller components, can be restored to original. So strip away, but keep all the original parts safe for the time you might decide to revert back to stock. I started with a bastard car, so have no problems striping and changing parts. BTW, should we try to meet for that beer this year? Although the next Kroggers is due to arrive on the 10th June, so Summer might be a bit mad up here in Stockholm for me

Hi Shaun,
Thank you, all that is missing to complete the job is in a box some where between you and me ![]() No, the graphics turned into a real bad story. I do not want to share it all on a public forum, so I will include it in my next email to you. It will be sorted out, but at the moment the design of the car graphics is last on the CCR list... PS, will reply to your email this evening.

Wait, this is getting "on topic". We need to be careful. Hmm. Non porsche content needed. Markus is a poopy head. That's better ![]() And you need to get "Dr. Phil" over there to help you take on the horde of un-wed nurses. That should cure any depression.

OOOoooppppssss you are right..... I guess the 911 is to the 914 what the 599 is to the 911....
Then a Catheram would demolish the 914 and an Ariel would kill the Catheram etc... |
