I'll add that the rules and coordination required to play the game make it very accessible to young children.

Baseball is a sport that to a varying degree needs to be adapted somewhat to allow younger player to play it...tee ball, coach pitch, etc.

Basketball has a height factor that makes it difficult for a 6 year old to play.

Soccer can be played by a 6 year old and a 26 year old and a 46 year old and you are playing the exact same game.

Soccer is also the great equalizer in that a persons physical stature doesn't automatically give an advantage.

Main point is that is fun whatever age you are. No stopping every ten seconds and no equipment needed other than a ball. Some kids don't even need that, they play with duck tape footballs.
