My Red Platy had about 20 badies. My wife said it looked preggo and I put her in a berthing cage and the next night she popped out about 20.

I have a bunch of Convict/Texas Cichlid hybrids, and they told me it was hard to get them to breed.

here's a sneak peak of my 180 gallon tank i scored from the university of florida and my almost done stand
the sump below is on heavy duty tool box sliders and slides out for maintenance

Here is (was) my setup. I took it apart to clean it and cracked the bottom as I took it down the stairs by myself. The tank and top have been in my garage for about a month. I want taking care of it and had lost interest over the last few years as kids and other hobbies seem to take higher importance.

You can fix your broken bottom, it's some work but not too bad if you have space....pm me if interested.

I'm not going to hijack this thread....I'll start my new one today....but the setup is slick

My oscars which I had to leave in ohio when I moved have been mating, so when my 180 is ready i'll be receiving offspring from my pair.....my goal is to end up with another mating pair of tiger O's.

Hugh, does that breed guard their young? Congrats

Don't know if they guard their young, the fish guy said to remove her cause she could eat them if she's hungry, so I guess the answer is no. He sold me a "fish baby food" which is a small container with a pump (like hand soap in a bottle) to feed them. He said it's really small diameter brine fish that they can eat. Said to feed them several times per day.

we have a pair of mickey mouse platies (yellow with red and black, will try to get a pic of them) who have been uh..."busy". Mom's popped out so many within the past few weeks there's at least 40 baby fish. Mom's nowhere to be seen, unless it's dinner time. Didn't see them guard, nor eat them either. Been feeding them regular flakes, so apparently those are ok as well...

Literally, 20 minutes ago!

So I'm walking by my fish tank and I look at one of my Red Platys and say to myself "Man, she has a huge caboose" So I put her in the birthing tank and literally 10 minutes later Mrs. Hugh R calls me and says we have like 30 or more babies. Sure enough, we do. Is that timing or what? My chasing her with the net probably induced labor!! That was only a few minutes ago, here is a pic. Cigars for everyone! I'll take Momma out soon, so she doesn't eat her young, but I want to make sure she's done squirting them out. All those dots you see are babies.
