The weird part for me is NO ONE called the character Indiana or Indy - it was Henry, Jonesy, or Jones. Ford once nearly introduced himself as Indiana, then paused and said his given name. It felt like some backstory was left on the cutting room floor.

The movie did its job of being escapist entertainment. This is the 2nd best of the Indie films after the first. All of them were over the top as far as the action scenes went.

This was a subtle plot point, but very intentional. Throughout the whole movie, Indy's behavior suggests/implies that he is basically turning into his father. Remember the Ford/Connery relationship in LAST CRUSADE? A lot of those moments are revisited in CRYSTAL SKULL, but with "Mutt" in the Ford role and Indy in the Connery role. He is, basically, turning into his father... so it makes sense that he would prefer to go by the more mature and "responsible" Dr. Henry Jones, Jr., than the adventuring, womanizing "Indiana Jones."

In the professional world in which Jones occupies, he is no longer Indiana; the only one who calls him by that name is Marion, who doesn't know the "new" (ie OLD) Jones, a man who frowns at his son's exploits in the same way that his father frowned upon his.

And that is precisely what I was alluding to in my above post (the one where I said that they MIGHT be able to get one more episode out of this series, if that). Gawddammit. If Speilburg tries to stretch this thing on ad nauseum with Indiana Jones' son taking over the role of the protagonist, I'm gonna:

(1) puke
(2) go over to Speilburg's house and kick him square in the nuts
(3) probably puke again

In no particular order.

If he wants to do one more episode, I'd say maybe. I think this series is officially tapped out as of this episode though.

I just got out of the movie and it was entertaining but my favorite is still the Last Crusade. By the way, I really don't like red ants.

I agree.

So the Ark of the Covenant melting people when its opened is more believable than a spaceship?

Or witch doctors that can pull out hearts, and kill you with their mind are believable?

Or finding Christs Holy Grail with a 1000 year old man sitting and waiting for you to show up then when you drink from the wrong cup you age and die in a second? and you can pour water from the cup and heal a dieing man?

Yup, this was right there with them, it was a fantasy movie about a treasure hunter that was over the top, made me laugh a few times, and took me away from the real world for about 70 minutes.

Some people go to movie expecting life changing experiences every time, why not enjoy the silliness and take it for face value, its fun and make believe.
