What about the FREE Magellan® Roadmate 1200?? Conti is giving them away with a tire purchase, and it just so happens that the XJR needs new shoes & used Contis I'm also going to get a Pioneer AVIC for my tow vehicle

No one ever seems to mention Lowrance. They frequently win the magazine comparison tests. GPS's were referred to as a 'lowrance' when they first came on the consumer market. The 500C is fantastic. Very quick satellite acquisition time and the most intuitive interface I've used (a combination of hard buttons and touch screen). They are big, heavy, expensive and not generally available at the big box stores.

The Garmin in my rental car does the turn left only thing, not street name, and if I want to just put in Worcester, it seems to always want a street address. Also, it won't tell me where I'll be going until its near the next turn. I wanted to go from Woburn to Worcester and the best info I could get out of it was the time to drive there (about 1.5 hours). I'd like one with a overview map and text directions as an option.

I got a Magellan Maestro 3140 off Amazon about 2 months ago for $150 - a special deal. Feature rich for what I was looking for - it's got bluetooth capability, text to speech - so it tells you road names, etc.

I just bought the Zumo 550. It was designed specifically for motorcycle use and has all the bells and whistles like mp3 player, bluetooth for my phone and is XM ready. For my bike it's great because now I have everything in one tidy package and not alot of wiring. In the car, it's nice because it provides handsfree use of the cellphone and there is a built in mic and speaker in the car mount. It says the streets by names.

Wife recently bought me a Tom Tom w/ speach (ie can read street names) and the screen is very easy to see. i really like the display as it is not cluttered in regards to seeing your route. the only complaint i have is that the 'go to' function (aka 'find me some chinese food!') is for *****. The Garmin my wife's dad had was much, much, much better for this. shopping, food, etc. by category. My Tom Tom doesn't have this. Still, i'm keeping it because the nav screen is so nicely done.
