Guard Shack Guy
Our guard shack is manned by a guy who likes to talk, and who faithfully, regularly, daily.....listens to right-wing hate-radio. I've nodded and smiled though all his rants as I show my security badge. Until yesterday morning.
He was going off about how the majority of people in Miami used to speak English, and now the majority of them don't speak English. He ended by asking the question "Where does that come from?" I couldn't resist. I asked him if he was aware of the history of this country. I asked him if the term "Ellis Island" rang a bell. I asked him what solution he proposed. His answer to that one was pretty funny. He said he's a big fan of "personal responsibility." I pointed out that the "personal responsibility" approach to mandating English fluency is the approach we are using now. I thought "okay," as long as he seems to be into whining and griping and criticizing America like all staunch conservatives seem to be doing, I thought I'd offer him one of my pet peeves. I told him that was I really hate is these talk-show radio guys who make their living getting people pissed off at America by pointing out all that's wrong (using partial information and assumptions and innuendo). I told him I think it is beyond unpatriotic to do this. I told him I consider it treasonous to regularly, daily, bash government agencies (their favorite target by FAR) using partial information (leaving out the parts that tell "the rest of the story"). At this point, he was stammering quite a bit. I don't really want to paint any undue stereotypes here but quite frankly, his ***** this morning was classic conservative hatred. It is just another instance where conservatives want to regulate PEOPLE, and deregulate INDUSTRY. They want to require everyone to behave in a way that pleases them. English-speaking pleases them. They don't want change. They want things to be like they were fifty years ago or more. And they don't consider the problem of implementation. They only want to see how their nation is failing. How America is going to Hell in a handbasket. Because we have spanish-speaking communities in America. ****! The proportion of non-English speaking Americans today is probably not as high as it was at the start of the eighteenth century. With so many people becoming famous and popular by spewing hate talk on the radio and supporting that hatred with misinformation, I wonder if anyone is surprised by the observation that voters are making ignorant decisions at the polls. Patriots? Nope. Traitors? Yes, I think so. |
Hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope, change, hope...

Learn Spanish, get promoted to top shack.

Who are these right-wing-hate radio hosts? I'm curious where I can listen in. I've heard so much about them, but never come across anyone spewing hate, other than Michael Savage, who's pretty far down the pecking order.

You would be pissed at the world too if you had to sit in a guard shack all day.
"badge please - go ahead" "badge please - go ahead" "what are you stealing and do you have one for me - thank you and go ahead" |
most of those early undoc. workers assimilated.. english, and the rest blah, blah
new undoc. worker....brings his ways, keeps them, expects me to adapt to his way.. FT, Rika |
You know what's funny Sup? The way you describe conservatives as wanting to regulate people is the same way conservatives describe liberals. Its all perspective and life experiences I suppose.

"No se, no hablo ingles" is probably what I would have replied :) |

Hey, Supe-
Ever listen to Air America? |
i just hate everyone. It is more efficient.
|
You've been talking to Tabs again, haven't you?
|
What's really funny, you could easily replace "conservative" with "liberal" in that post, and Supe would be all over it. That's not hypocritical or anything. But he's "right", so it's ok. How about we just conclude that you're both idiots too blinded by your beliefs to see the reality that's in front of you, and move on.

Cut him a break Soup. Clearly he's just bitter and only has religion, guns, and right-wing hate-radio to hold onto.
Edit - Jeff, LMFAO. It is true tho, I spent a few days in Miami last year and I don't think I spoke a word of English while I was down there. Lucky I'm fluent in Spanish... |
Funny you should bring up Ellis Island when the subject is learning and speaking english.. As I recall everyone of the early emigrants to this country learned english and assimilated into it.. Oh and btw, they were LEGAL!!!!
So what's the issue?? As long as they are legal, speak english, and contribute to society I'm good with it.. Trying to figure out where the hate is??? |
I think soup"s anger comes not from the attacks on the english speaking but from the hate spewed at inefficient govt agencies. soup works for the gov. and is getting tweeked at the talkers pointing out the problems within the govt ability to govern. IMHO
enjoy your weekend |
The government has problems? What?!

Guard has a negative connotation to it. You should know better Sup, the proper title for this thread "Security Officer posted at the entrance to our facility"

I have nothing to add here only Miami is an awesome place and the Latin culture is what makes that city what it is.
If your guard shack guy ever went down there and had a open mind about the place he might find most of the people there to be VERY friendly and bilingual. When my wife and I are down there we are always spoken to in Spanish first then when we tell them, No habla Espanol, they apologize and speak to us in English. People will find something wrong with everything around them, is called having your butthole attached to you eye, you have a crappy outlook on life. Now where did I put my rose colored glasses??? Oh I left them in the Audi..... |

Directors that is split down the middle between people that like what they do and support them, but have half their BoD be people who hate them and want them to fail, then send some TV reporters down there with an agenda of creating a news story that pisses people off. Then Verizon will be standing in the same shoes your government agencies stand in. My guess is that Verizon could be made very dysfunctional, and that those TV reporters will be able to air a Verizon story that will make people angry at Verizon. Just a guess...... Gubmit-bashing is MUCH cheaper and easier than good investigative journalism, and hate-stories play very well with audiences these days. Gubmit-bashing is not just easier for journalists........it's easier for anybody who doesn't want to gather the rest of the facts. Let's just pretend that there are two groups of Americans. Those that work for private companies and those that work for public agencies. Let's pretend the private workers are sharp, intelligent, hard-working, honest and effective. And let's pretend that gubmit workers are lazy, ignorant, unmotivated and dishonest. Yeah, that makes sense. BTW, I was "interviewed" by the Justice Department last Friday. I was told the prosecutor is a sharp guy who could make triple his current salary working for a private law firm. After meeting him, I would agree he is very sharp and would be much more wealthy if he accepted one of the offers he gets regularly from private law firms. Oh wait. Nevermind. That does not fit the stereotype. Nevermind. |
Where does the Verizon bashing come from? I am confused.
|
Supe's going into dodge and duck mode. He avoids the hypocracy of his original post by diverting the issue elsewhere, and presents a vague argument that cannot be retorted.
|
Funny how conservatives' demands for accountability are labelled by the left as "hate". I think their differing positions can be understood by examining their respective relationships with their government.
Liberals see the government as no more than a ready supplier of free *****. The gubmint, in their eyes, only exists to hand out free ***** to folks who don't have enough. They have absolutely no idea where all that free ***** comes from; they had no idea when mommy and daddy provided it, and still have no idea when gubmint provides it. They see no reason why others cannot come to our country and partake of all of the free ***** they want. These folks, after all, add to their voting base that elects polititians that promise even more free *****. Anyone who would deny another of their "fair share" of free ***** is, well, just plain mean. Conservatives, on the other hand, recognize where all that "free" ***** comes from. They supplied it. As such, they would like some say as to who gets it, and how much they get. If they absolutely have to give away some of what they earned as "free" ***** to some one else (who has done nothing to earn it), they would at least like that some one else to be an American citizen. There are plenty of those lining up for their free *****; we don't need people here illegally getting in line as well. At least if they are American citizens, there is some chance (no matter how remote) that they may have contributed to the supply of free *****. Illegal aliens have most certainly not. Conservatives recognize that. Liberals think they are mean for even bringing it up. |

His public sector counterpart would be a police agency. Those guys have to respect and respond to every single request for information, and there are MANY daily. Their budget is dictated to them. Their Board of Directors includes everyone living in their jurisdiction. And their mandate is to make everyone safe. You see any differences here, and which organization would be easier to run? Yes, there is a HUGE difference between public sector employment and private sector. It's nice if you're good at your job in the private sector. Mandatory if you're in the public sector, and you'll earn less money. |
No **** !

I agree that the hate radio guys are making money off fueling more division in America and therefore should be labeled as un-patriotic despite all their flag waving.
Look at the founding fathers, if you do a little reading up on early American history those guy fought like cats and dogs... they hardly agreed on anything. No doubt that is why they set up a country with so much freedom so everyone could do their own thing. But that required them to come together, disregard their differences, and sign some legal papers to get the ball rolling. On the other hand when I show up in Fort Worth to install a show, the crew asks me if I speak spanish, I say no they roll their eyes and walk away shaking their heads... WTF is up with that? I can speak some broken spanish and get along but don't give me attitude! |
What radio guys are promoting hate? Can I get an example?

So, no, our gubmint is not a co-op. It allows non-members to reap benefits. It allows non-contributors to remain members. It allows non-contributors to help decide how it is run; these are the folks voting themselves more free ***** from the coffers. These are the ones championing non-members' "rights" to likewise dip into coffers they have not helped fill. Quote:
Everyone comes from somewhere. My mom came from Germany; literally right off the boat, the only member of her family that came. First generation imigrant. My dad was third generation Irish. While my dad's family didn't have to, my mom put extraordinary effort into learning English. All the while speaking German with her kids at home. My mom and dad's generation, and those who preceded them here from the four corners of the world, recognized the fact that they were entering a foreign country. They expected to have to learn our ways. They expected their children to learn their ways; the ways of their ancestors, and to pass them on to their grandchildren. I have done that. My kids know where they come from. I guess it's all too easy (apparently even instinctive) for liberals to hide behind the "hate" accusation. Anyone who opposes their point of view must hate them, and hate whatever it is they are blathering on about. It appears they cannot grasp differing perspectives, especially those that run contrary to their own. Their child-like reaction is "he hates me" or "he hates _____". There is no hate from conservatives on these issues. Just a call for accountability, and a call for our newest immigrants to follow the same rules our mothers and fathers followed. [WHINY, HAND WRINGING NINNIE LIBERAL VOICE] ...but it's too hard, why do I have to; he hates me...[/WHINY, HAND WRINGING NINNIE LIBERAL VOICE]. |
funny thing is most of the miami cubans are so RIGHTWING
they think most of the GOP is far far tooo liberal but while some may like Miami ''I have nothing to add here only Miami is an awesome place and the Latin culture is what makes that city what it is. If your guard shack guy ever went down there and had a open mind about the place he might find most of the people there to be VERY friendly and bilingual. When my wife and I are down there we are always spoken to in Spanish first then when we tell them, No habla Espanol, they apologize and speak to us in English.'' I note you donot live HERE and I do and I remember they way this town was before the invasion of RIGHTWING Spanish SPEAKERS note the first use of Spanish and the way they expect ''EVERYONE" to speak Spanish now try to get a job without speaking Spanish and you will find even the american companys demand you speak Spanish to get alot of jobs and the cuban companys simply do not hire english speaking people NOW ADD IN TOOO MANY 100,000's of illegals who only speak Spanish and are willing to work for sub-minimum wages and you have THE POOREST MAJOR CITY IN AMERICA AND ONE ALL MOST NO AMERICAN WANTS TO MOVE IN TO ALL CAUSED BY UNRESTRICTED IMMIGRATION |
