hey Len, I remember that wind storm, that was the Saturday night storm? I just showed my wife the pics and she said you were on the news last night, she said it was your house she saw.

Yep, that was our place on the news. A buddy saw it and called me: "Uhh I think I just saw your house on the news."

Wow, bad luck.

At least the insurance money will keep another Michigan builder busy for a couple of months longer.

Let me know if you need an architect.

OK, things are going fairly well. The construction is 50% done or so.

But....they want to re shingle 1/2 of the house to the main peak leaving the other half as is. The shingles are quite old and this will be a noticeable difference visually. What are your realistic thoughts on this?

You might be ok - we just had a skylight replaced a few weeks ago, and they only replaced the surrounding shingles. The existing shingles are approx. 10 years old. I can't believe how well they matched them! You can tell if you really look hard, but you'd never notice it casually.

LD,

Offer to pay for the new shingles for the other half of the house if they supply the labor.

The house will not look right and your value will suffer otherwise, so the whole roof needs to look the same, period.

The brutal truth is that I'm broke but for credit cards (you know my story) and they wanted three large to do the other half. I can't swing that and I'm not putting it on a card.

They messed up my driveway with some of the heavy equipment and I might say "hey I'll look the other way on that but you gotta do the whole roof".

A discussion with the adjuster this morning went very well. He said "Oh yea, we planned on doing the whole roof, absolutely."

So there must have been a communication issue with the builder.

Damn, I missed this thread the first time around. That sucks bigtime. Get this round of bad luck out of the way, you're due for some good.
