I know quite a few of you are into bicycling around these parts, but is anyone else doing the HHH?

I did the ride 4 years in a row- from 96-99. Boy that is dating myself.
Actually, after training in florida the ride itself was pretty easy. The hottest was in 98 or 99, when we finished we took pictures under the thermometer sign at the bank - just past the finish line. 105. The ride was very well organized, and well supported. The topography is boring- you could train by riding your bike in a sauna with a bag over your head. It actually is a pretty easy century- our times were in the 5:15 range each year-nice comfortable no big deal pace. I actually hope to do it again next year- it will celebrate 5 years after surgery and hopefully cancer free. Have a great time, and let us know your experiences. If you haven't done it before- get there early. We just rode in from the hotel- less than 5 miles- as parking seems to be an issue. The crits are a hoot to watch. Gary |

I did it back around 1990 (how's that for dating myself!). It was an unusually cool day for the event - I think in the 70's at the start and only up to about 90 for a high. I started out slow and picked up my pace late in the race. The last 20 miles or so, I didn't have a single person pass me - I was blowing by others though.

5 little words for you.
Stay hydrated, apply sunscreen often. Not bad pedaling in the heat if you ask me, long as you keep moving you don't get too hot, or I never did. I must confess I never did ride in the 100*F, 103% humidity of the gulf coast.(WTF is that anyway, more than 100% seems implausible to me) Beats riding in the rain.

Actually, I trained and did the MS150, but that isn't in the heat. I've been training for the HHH by biking here in Houston and doing Centuries here.

Quote:
Night time here in Houston, you'll approach 80-90% Relative humidity. If it is 100%, you have fog. Daytime, the relative humidity goes down, but the dewpoint goes up a bit.

I remember many times in Houston where they were talking about greater than 100% humidity on the news.
