I have a setup with mirrored hard drives and an online backup service as additional security.

But in x number of years who's to say that the web site will still be in operation and that both those hard drives will still be compatible with anything close to modern. New technology comes out like every 5 minutes.

High-res, deep laser etching into granite. You'll lose the color, but they'll probably last for a while.

$49 a year - no storage limit. It's Windows only right now, but OS X compatibility will be offered soon. You never know what will happen - theft, fire, the super-quake. I do weekly backups and have the drives in my earthquake kit ready to jam out the door (and a big, redundant drive stashed at work), but online, encrypted storage beats (or compliments) my backup solution, IMO. |

It's just data, if the SHTF, does your data really mean a hill of beans?
I mean, when the city you live in is swallowed by an earthquake, is anyone gonna fault you because that project you were working on, or your 401K receipts that were on a hard drive somewhere were destroyed???
