not sure how they do it. measure speed from point A to point B, or when you go over them they measure the speed...?

From: National Motorists Association [mailto:nma@motorists.org] Sent: Friday, November 13, 2009 10:28 AM To: Pelicanheads Subject: NMA Alert: Opposing Red-Light Cameras All Members, On October 19th, we sent an email alert to you about the grassroots effort being organized by Helwig F. Van Der Grinten (Van) in Houston against the USAA's open endorsement of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) support of red-light camera programs. Van has made excellent progress, and he has set up an online petition where you can join him in the goal of getting enough signatures and donations to present the petition at USAA's annual members meeting next year, and make the organization's directors take notice. Below is an update from Van on November 12, 2009, with a link provided for USAA members to sign the petition. In addition, here is a link to an online petition for ALL DRIVERS opposed to the use of photo enforcement techniques across the country: Stop Photo Enforcement Petition. This is your opportunity to play an instrumental part in opposing red-light cameras. ----------------------- Date: Thu, 12 Nov 2009 16:59:14 EST Subject: USAA red light camera petition An informal petition is now available for signatures by USAA members at: End USAA support of red light cameras Petition When you endorse this petition please be sure to allow me to access your email address (there is an option to allow this). That way I can keep in touch with all signers of this informal petition. A formal petition is being prepared through the American Arbitration Assosiation which will, in accordance with the USAA Bylaws, be presented to the directors in time for the November 2010 annual meeting. A pledge drive to raise the required deposit of $10,000 is underway. We have so far received pledges totaling $1,5040. If you have not yet made a pledge and would like to do so please indicate the amount you pledge by return email. I will be attending the annual meeting on Saturday, November 21, 2009 in San Antonio. I plan to vote against any director who supports the biased stand of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in favor of red light cameras. Please pass this on to all your friends and relatives who are USAA members. Thank you for your interest. Van H. F. Van Der Grinten Founder, Houston Coalition Against Red Light Cameras (as they are presently utilized) Sugar Land, Texas

You guys need to get on the program.
Photo radar was abolished up here years ago for being too Orwellian.

Those cameras are so easily defeated that I almost have no sympathy for those who get caught by them, other than my normal contempt for state fundraising under the guise of safety. In AZ those cameras have two warning signs, one 1/2 mile ahead and the next 300 ft. ahead. Ditto for the mobile units. How can you not see them? Everyone slows down for them. On my bike I can easily do 90mph between the sensor wires, since there's about an 8" gap between each lane and my bike doesn't weigh that much, even if I hit the wire. If there are no cars slowing me down, I make it a point to speed excessively past those cameras, just as I make it a point to be slobbering drunk while doing CA online traffic school. Hey, I have my principles. Besides, the tickets mean nothing unless you get caught by the process server and I don't answer my front door for unexpected company. I've heard they don't even bother mailing tix to bikers wearing full-face helmets, since they can't match the face with the drivers license photo.

My detector has paid for itself countless times. One trip to the next town over, about 12 miles away, I came across 12 cop cars, nine of which were running radar.
