How we spend the 4th in small town USA
I just had to share this. I live in a small town environment, much like Mayberry. Here's the full list of activities for the holiday as listed in our local newspaper:
1. Lions Club's annual pancake breakfast, in the park; 2. Adult Health Center's benefit BBQ, with a band; 3. The old fashioned 4th of July parade down Main Street; 4. American Legion's annual Town Picnic with 2 bands; 5. Fireworks show over the harbor; and, last but not least, 6. A social group of lesbians and bisexual women will have their 4th of July potluck at a private home.

What town? It's difficult to find a "quaint" town on the water. I had to move to the middle of the desert...

I'm surprised some places in CA haven't yet banned July 4th celebrations.

You gotta admit, it could get interesting.
BTW, I just got back from the parade. Cops, firemen, cowboys and cowgirls, ranchers, farmers, kids on bikes, muscle cars, Harleys, vintage cars. Yep, still Mayberry. I love it.

The county next to ours is hosting an all out shindig complete with a "Tractor Cruise-in" and a "Cow Milking Contest" amongst other things of course.

This is the 1st year we are not up at our house in North Carolina for the 4th and I am wish ing I was there.
We could sit on the front porch and see the fireworks display downtown. If we chose to we could walk downtown too and watch, since they closed down mainstreet and had all kinds of fun things going on including music.

Sounds like the schedule for any of 50 towns in the Finger Lakes region of upstate NY(except the lesbians, only in Ithaca, and they have their own parade).

Are you totally oblivious to the fact that California is so often in the news because it is a leader in so many areas? Whaddayou, isolated in some Arizona desert or something?

And what are you into besides male insecurity, full-cut pre-faded jeans and jackboot heels?

Where do you live? We had a cookout at my house last night and 10 or so good friends, Rick Lee of the PPOT and his wife among them. Had some friends drive in from Wickenburg and almost had some PPOT members from Tucson. This is part of the reason why they came: ![]() Rib eyes, BBQ babyback ribs and all the fixings on the side and a few adult drinks to wash it all down with! If you are not too far away will send you an invite for the next one! Joe
