Jim,
The dry humor is working well!!!!
Now, with the BMW you can move to optimism.

The new ride looks good. Hey if anyone comes across an E46 or E39 with under 60K miles, a manual transmission, and the sport package for between $15k-$17K, let me know as I think I am now officially in the market. It looks like the 525 and 924 will be gone soon and replaced by a car that my parents will help me buy and then hand the title over to me and put everything in my hands.

That sounds like a smoking deal...but I have to get a car with a manual transmission. I just get so bored without a clutch.

2005 A6 Quattro until August 20th, maybe sooner now that we have the BMW.

You can read the fun I have had here if you have time to kill.

Jeremy if that car was a manual I would have bought it from you. I have to admit though the one we are buying, I love the interior on, Renee, my wife was positive it had been redone it was so perfect, only 1 blemish on the drivers seat, the piping has a knick in it.

I'll get more pictures of it once it is cleaned up properly. We leave tomorrow night for Orlando then fly into Phoenix for 12 days so it will be sitting and waiting until then.

Jims5543 07-30-2008 05:52 AM

I was actually surprised at the E46 interiors, the few cars I looked at, mostly 325's and 323's the center console were trashed on every one of them.

BTW - The door interior trim on the passenger front door is falling off on the Audi, again 25K miles and less than 3 years old and its beginning to fall apart inside.

onewhippedpuppy 07-30-2008 05:53 AM

Most E36s that I've seen have a sagging headliner, door vinyl coming unglued, sagging and seperating glovebox, and a worn through seat side bolster. The difference between the quality in my E34 and E36 was night and day, and my W202 C26 AMG is vastly superior to both. Very fun to drive though.

Jim, I see that it has the sport package, good call. Those sport seats are excellent.

JeremyD 07-30-2008 05:58 AM

You'll love the sport seats and the sport steering wheel - I like the darker interior - but the lighter makes so much more sense in Florida. It's too bad - but you know the saying - if Mama isn't happy, nobody is happy!

Jims5543 07-30-2008 07:55 AM

Issues were resolved as negotiated and the car is ready for pickup at 5:00, I have to drive 30 miles to the guys house this afternoon.

We will probably drop the Audi off after we get back from vacation.

onewhippedpuppy 07-30-2008 08:02 AM

You should let the battery die, and make them come get it with a towtruck.:D

We are driving it 80 miles to Orlando to the airport where it will be parked for 12 days. It will probably be dead when we get back because cars are not supposed to sit for 12 days.

onewhippedpuppy 07-30-2008 09:06 AM

You mean Audis aren't supposed to sit for 12 days, right?

This pretty much sums it up, in the 26 years I have owned cars now, not one has disgusted me as much as this one. I will never own another Audi as long as I live.

This was the only way I could think of to say goodbye to it. Well, I considered taking a dump in the engine bay.

Here are some pics I took of the E46 yesterday after cleaning it up.

I am loving the lack of sunroof and power seats, if I was to order a 330i new this would probably be the car I would have ordered. This is exactly how I ordered my JCW MINI, no sunroof and only the sport package, nothing else.

Interesting story told by a salesman sharking around the parking lot. He saw me heading towards the Ferrari and asked if I needed help. Of course not just gawking at the Ferrari, he told me the Ferrari was traded in the buy the S7 next to it, the S7 had 85 miles on it when it left the lot and was then traded back in with 97 miles on it for a Bentley.

It must be nice to be so rich you can trade in 2 cars in a row like that.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...W/CIMG4445.jpg

BTW - There were 4 Ferrari's on the Audi Porsche lot all traded in, in the last 3 weeks. I was there 3 weeks ago and none of them were there.

Interesting.

Beautiful Bimmer. I hope you have better luck with it than the Audi!

Congrats Jim!

Look at all the fun you are missing! You don't even want to know how much more crap needs removed to get at the leaking cam chain tensioners and the valve cover gaskets. Anyone who has ever ACTUALLY done this work on an A6 twin turbo will agree that these cars are MISERABLE to work on. ;)
