Audi, going going......

almost gone!!

We had our lease return inspection on Friday and there were no issues I have to pay for.

I got a call from the dealership pitching me yesterday, my coworker busted out laughing after I hung up.

salesman (SM) - Hello, I see your about to return your lease, have you considered what you would like to do? Maybe another new Audi we have some that get great gas.... (cut off)

Me - I will never own another Audi as long as I live, as far as I am concerned the marque is dead to me.

SM- Well, Audi has made some remarkable improvements over the last 3 years and I think.... (cut off again)

Me- Look buddy, this is a dead end your not going to sell me anything, your dealership has abused me for the last 4 years and I am done, go find the salesman that leased me this car and ask him how surprised he was we were return customers after the fiasco with my 1st Audi. This was my last car from you ever!

SM- Have a nice day (Hangs up)

We already put a deposit on the replacement. 2001 330i with 70K miles, interior is perfect exterior is perfect sans 2 blemishes on the front hood and some requisite rock chips.

Oh and this one gives me problems no big deal its a 7 year old car with 70K miles I am expecting some. I also paid 1/5 of what I did for the Audi.

No monthly payments were my first option on this one and it feels good.

Nice choice on the BMW. Hell, compared to the Audi, the eventual BMW suspension bushings and cooling system replacement will feel great! I'll take mechanical repairs over electrical demons any day.

congrats jim, you'll love the bimmer :)

Jims5543 07-29-2008 05:37 AM

Thanks Matt and Brian.

I have to thank RickV and Pat for their input and help as I searched for a good 3 series. Rick preferred a E36 but we could not find one with decent mileage.

The first E46 I looked at was a 323i and Rick told me before I saw it I would hate how underpowered it was. He was right. The 325i was bearable and this 330i was just fun.

onewhippedpuppy 07-29-2008 05:40 AM

Jim, be glad you avoided the E36. It's a great driving car, but the interior is crap. Especially compared to your Audi. It doesn't hold up well at all, I think BMW tried to save a few dollars and went too far. The E46 is much nicer.

berettafan 07-29-2008 05:45 AM

RickV is a wrench and was probably giving more consideration to the mechanicals.

TerryBPP 07-29-2008 05:48 AM

Glad to hear you found one.

By coincidence one of my coworkers has me looking for a 01' 3 series vert.

Yes, he caught himself at one point and said that, but I agree with him the body style of the E36 is much more BMW than the E46, the E46 body style changes and while I like it it does depart from the classic look.

onewhippedpuppy 07-29-2008 05:56 AM

For the classic BMW look, I'd take an E34 over an E36 hands down. I was pretty impressed with the E34's build quality, not so much on the E36. Still, I like the E46. It maybe doesn't have that "classic" BMW look, but it's a damn good looking car. Jim, is that a sport package car?

Congrats on the Bimmer. Now start reading: http://www.bimmerfest.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

Strange. After 160k miles and 13 yrs my e36 is still quite nice. Oh well.

Good luck with the car Jim, I hope it works out.

m21sniper 07-29-2008 06:54 AM

Congrats Jim, i know how much you hated that Audi. :)

Rick Lee 07-29-2008 06:57 AM

Your e46 looks identical to mine. You will love it. I've driven mine like I stole it for the last 30k miles and haven't had a single problem.

Porsche-O-Phile 07-29-2008 07:15 AM

The BMW is an excellent choice.

Congrats on being rid of the anchor. I have to admit a certain part of me felt the same way when my 951 burned up. I was sad but a part of me felt liberated too.

allaircooled 07-29-2008 07:41 AM

I love my '01 330xi and I don't see myself parting with in anytime soon. Only problems I have had is the sunroof sunshade and my drivers side window. Two common problems on these cars. Gets 30mpg on the highway cruising at 80 too.

If all goes well Renee will be driving it up to the Dragon in Nov. I might leave the RX7 home...... yeah right.

rammstein 07-29-2008 02:40 PM

You should leave the RX7 with me- I'll even vacuum the interior.

I am sorry I missed last weekend, but I had to do wife stuff on Saturday. How was the event?

Jims5543 07-29-2008 03:00 PM

It was tough without slicks and traction and frustrating but at the same time rewarding. I was mid pack about 70 out of 150 cars. I miss the top though.

The course is a lot of fun, drag race start and finish and your pretty much racing on the Karting Track.

Moroso is going to have test and tune Sundays from 9-5, $50 all the runs you can stand and no course working. They just give you times there are no classes or trophy's.

rammstein 07-29-2008 03:10 PM

Isn't Moroso just a straight line?
