I so wanted to see Pink Floyd. Too bad they stopped touring in '94 and I didn't see my first concert until '95.

We should start a "Worst Concert Ever" thread. You gave us a solid start.

I was six years old when I saw U2 on their tour for The Joshua Tree. Still have the ticket stub too!
Saw Radiohead two nights ago, plenty of kids with parents there.

15, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Full Moon Fever Tour (haven't missed a tour since). Later that Summer, the Grateful Dead at RFK. My parents dropped us off, my friend's parents picked us up.
Damn, if they only knew. This was in 1989. I went to A LOT of concerts after that. With that being said, my daughter was -3months old, when she "saw' Bob Weir at Mishawaka Ampitheater here in Colorado with about 250 other people. Last edited by 911boost; 08-15-2008 at 10:19 AM.. Reason: spelling. |

Joe Cocker, Parker's Ballroom, Seattle. Mid '80's sometime. He was too drunk, high, (or both) to perform, try as he might. They pulled him from the stage and procalimed all dinners were on the house (it was a dinner/conceRt venue).

Remember it like it was yesterday, Black Sabbath @ St. Paul Civic Center in fall or winter '71. I was 12. I remember my buddy's dad dropping us off on 7th st. in front and being young enough that he was worried about us getting hit by a car crossing, it's a busy street and we were so excited that our feet were barely touching the ground. It was the "War Pigs" tour, when "Paranoid" was the current album. Have that CD in my 996 today. Funny thing is that through the randomness of life, I'm pretty good friends w/ Ozzy today and I've never told him that story. Always mean to, but forget. He's a funny guy.
That started a career of seeing shows at a frantic pace for the next 15 years or so, I've seen basically every band worth a damn that ever played, some several times. Every Stones tour from '72 to '89, every Zepelin tour in '70s, the Who twice, Floyd @ Tampa Bay stadium frying on acid in '77, etc., etc... Plus a lot of great R&B shows including James Brown in a night club in Mpls. Went to hundreds of shows when punk rock landed @ age 18, Mpls. was a great place to grow up if you loved music and then I moved to L.A. in '82. I went to HS w/ Prince, so I was a fan from the word "go" and saw him @ 1st Ave. multiple times. Same w/ the Replacements. Don't make many shows anymore, 49 y.o. and have seen it all. An exception will be Rage Against the Machine playing Mpls. during the GOP convention in a couple weeks. Wouldn't miss that for all the tea in China.

1st Ave, that place is great. I saw Tenacious D there when we still lived in Inver Grove Heights, back in 2001 I think.

15.
The Who opened for Hermans Hermits. Blues Magoos were on the bill too. 1964 or 5. Right after that I saw Johnny Winter, Cactus, Curved Air all on one bill for like $5.00 Saw The Stones on their first US tour in Cleveland had to be like 65, and saw Zep in a tent, a place called Music Carnival. as an opening act also. probably opening for some stupid bill like Simon and Garfunkle. Christ am I the oldest guy here?

![]() Led Zep's first tour gig was opening for Iron Butterfly, legend has it that IB wouldn't take the stage after them at some show 'cause Zepelin burned it to the ground. (Can you imagine LZ in about '68 when they had something to prove)?!?

If it makes you feel any better, my dad saw Iron Buttery at the Armory on the Iowa State campus.....
![]() Seriously though, while I "missed" all of the 60's shows, I have seen some pretty good ones. Of course it helped I worked at Wolf Trap, the National Park for the Performing Arts, as an usher for two seasons during the summers in college. While there were the typical lame concerts, I did see some great shows there. CS&N, with Mick Jagger stepping in for a couple of songs back in the mid 90's was a memorable one, as was B. Marsalis the night after Jerry died. The "Fire On the Mountain" was intense, and brought tears to my eyes... My wife and I even flew to Buffalo this June to catch Tom Petty for our 10th Anniversary since we weren't going to be in Colorado when he was here.... Bill |

Oh man, I remember seeing Living Color play there back in the mid 80's. That was the last time I went there. It was a dump with character back then, now it's just a dump.
