The big mountain (McKinley on the maps) is usually hidden in clouds. They don't tell you that when you buy the bus ticket, but the fact is that 27 days in July found the mountain completely shrouded all day.
But not today... It would come and go from the clouds. The locals call this "the mountain reveals herself". I would just stop the bike and hang out in the peaceful quiet and let the moment wash over me. It is definately harder to ride the bike in the park than take the bus but moments like this, savored for as long as I choose, make it worth it. If time allows on another trip, I'll backpack the park (as the bike is not permitted off-road). This is a truly wild and beautiful place. One of those "Must SEE" places before you die. angela
