Where does Zillow get their photos?

I searched Zillow and found an aerial view of my house. No big deal, just a satellite photo. But it also offered a front view. To my surprise, there's a pic of the front of my house, taken from across street, that I can manipulate/pan left and right, up and down. Where and how in the heck they Zillow get that? The photo is about 6 months old, right after the landscaping was done. Could a tax assessor have snapped the pic?

I think they use Google Earth. Go on that site and see.

The shot of my house is a little older. The 914 is still on the trailer...

Yes, but how does Google get a shot of my front door? I thought Google is aerial only as well? I'll go to Google Earth for an explanation.

Google street view is what's called. If you go to google maps, you click on the "street view" button near the top right corner it will show you the streets that have been photographed by highlighting them in blue. The photograph cars they use look funny- its usually some newer economy car with a 8 ft pole on top with a whole bunch of guild wires.

they stick a cam on the top of a car, stream the pics with gps info to a disk and drive down streets in thousands of cities

suppress that urge

any one has every right to photo your house or you from a public area like the street -- or an alleyway, bike path or sidewalk

you could find out when they were coming and put up a weird looking facade -- that might be fun

ya your right; i wouldn't have a suitable backdrop for the shot. houses are too close.

if i knew they were coming i would definitely find something fun to do with it. at minimum i'd organize a mass mooning. maybe offer to host a local weight watchers club meeting then get 'em all drunk and have them moon the camera when it goes by.
