Let me tell ya about my wife's aunt. She's @ 87,and lived with my MIL (her sister) until my MIL passed away. Her husband died when he was in his 50's. Her daughter is an only child that moved 4 hours away so she wouldn't have to take care of her mother. She does nothing for her mother. She expects us to take care of her, which we do. Someone will pick her up on every holiday and take her to wherever we're celebrating. We take her to the doctors, grocery shopping, make sure her bills are paid, etc. Well last Thanksgiving as we're getting ready to eat, she gets up and blurts out "I don't care about any of you *********s, I just care about my little girl (she's 62) in Delhi" We haven't had her over since. But my wife's niece, who she used to yell at and call all sorts of names when she was young, is the one who does the most for her and who she calls when she wants something.
Some people are just messed up.

^Familiarity breeds contempt. Looking a gift horse in the mouth. We take things for granted and are never satisfied until that tree is picked clean. The less friends and associates we have the more we demand of them. It doesn't follow logic but that's what we do sometimes.

my sister and i are getting better. a lifetime of torture was hard to overcome for me. i had PTSD. my hands would sweat when i saw it was her calling.
marrying my wife the nurse helped me put a name to the stuff going on in my head. she would drop terms like "high ACES". once i knew the enemy in my head, i started getting over it. not to get all kumbayah or Zen, but none of it is worth it. my family is all jacked up, i am trying hard not to let any of it bother me ever again. life is too damn short.

Cost my brother and I over 6 figures in legal fees, lawyers and a court appointed arbitrator in defense against my sister and brother-in law. They spent even more and got nothing. Haven't spoken to me since. Looking back, it was worth every dollar to get rid of them.

Quite a few of my relatives lived long enough to lose their marbles. Alzheimer's and other age-related dementias usually aren't like flicking a switch in my experience; they go in and out over time, with periods of lucidity getting shorter/rarer. Decreased inhibition can also be a symptom. You might want to think about getting her checked out. My buddy thought his dad was perfectly fine and doing just peachy living on his own - until he was over visiting and realized that he'd just boiled himself a sandwich for lunch... When he looked more closely, he realized there was nothing in the fridge except 30 containers of milk - and about the same number of packets of unopened fuses by the front door. Because for a while, every day his dad had gone out, he'd had the idea he needed milk and a packet of fuses.

Growing up I never got along with my sister. I couldn’t get out of my parents house fast enough. She lived with my folks up until her mid thirties when she finally met a guy and got married. My wife hates her and says she is passive aggressive. When my widowed father met another lady and moved in with her( he was in his eighties) my sister did all she could to make my dads friend uncomfortable. Telling her she would never take the place of her mother. This from a women in her fifties. I could go on and on but I’d rather get her out of my life and not rekindle bad memories.

Wow, I always wished I had a sister, but maybe not anymore after reading this thread.
I do have one brother, he is older than me. He was a big bully when growing up and we were not very close as teenagers. Now as geezers we are closer, but we live 900 miles apart. I have no issues at all with in-laws and once again I feel very lucky.
