Dad had a walnut tree cut down years ago, rough milled and stacked in a barn.
Been missing him a lot since his passing so decided to go to the wood shop and make something. I had to plane the boards down, make a jig to cut the boards straight, used the edge jointer to get them edges correct, cut and installed biscuits and then glued up the boards. I plan on using this in our garage apartment for the kitchenette. Best part was being in his shop with my youngest daughter and talking with her about him...we both cried and laughed together. I’ll now need to take the slab and trim the ends to fit the space. I’m still deciding if I want to simply oil the finish or use poly to seal it.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1600368924.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1600368991.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1600369097.jpg |
Lovely job, Ben!
Looks wonderful. |
Beutiful! I haven't priced walnut, but I think just the material would cost a pretty penny. Going to be unique.

Ben, I think your dad would have been proud of you with what you have done with those old walnut slabs.
I met a woman years ago making hand made tables. She would cut bits of glass, just ordinary window glass, and use it as a scraper across the surface of the table top. Instead of sandpaper fluffing up the surface the freshly cut pieces of glass would make it perfectly smooth and flat. then she oiled it with linseed or something like that. Looked great. |

Per the article, it's off to the crusher, which is normal for test mule disposal.

That woman in the above pic is a sad story man. From experience hard drugs like meth or opiates are nothing to play around with.

^^^ Stunning transformation and nice to see great taste!
If that fireplace in the kitchen still works, I'd be grilling ribeyes over wood a few times a month. |
