It's almost as if, "Oh look, there's a nice car, let's let him in." Strange eh?

I have to tell you, I've had WAY more good experiences than bad when it comes to noticing reactions to my car.

One of my favorite pastimes on long road trips is to find a car or group to run with in a friendly way. A month or two ago, it was a gaggle of the most gorgeous Ducati bikes I have ever seen assembled out on the road. I was heading to Atlanta from Birmingham, driving by the exit where Barber Motorsports Park is, and a big vintage weekend was just letting out.

The sun was setting and everything glowed that beautiful golden light, casting long dramatic shadows. A perfect dozen of Ducatis pulled onto the interstate (yes, I counted!). I just hung back, watching, listening, and admiring. As each one peeled off to his exit, he'd bump fists with the last guy in line to say goodbye. Sniff! It was a postcard moment that lasted about 75 miles.

I took some real estate classes a couple of years back. One day I drove my 911.

During our lunch break a guy in my class asked me if I had a small penis.

Puzzled ... I asked why. He said, "because you drive a Porsche."

I got a kick out of it. I was about to tell him to ask his wife but didn't think that would be a good idea.

I like redlights,..where I punch the volume knob up, and seriously so. They then get a dose of Geddy Lee's shrill voice and a dose of RUSH...never making eye contact, mind you....oblivious to the world (other than safety concerns),..not giving a sheit about what anyone thinks.

Had to pull over once with a jerk who actually wanted to "discuss" something with me (all uncalled for)....I prompted this punk to cut the conversation real short, or I would. I've little tolerance for these types of people.

Maybe one day, I will become passive-aggressive,..but not at +50 years.

Well, finally this thread is "exposing" itself for what it is.

IT'S ALL ABOUT YOUR WINGSPAN!!

There is no reason that another car should ever have to slam on their brakes just because you want to jockey one car length ahead of them. Most folks drive at what they perceive to be a comfortable and safe distance behind the car in front of them. If you decide to cut in front of them where they have to reduce their speed for you...you are the jerk. If you really need to be in that lane, wait for a reasonable gap...or get in that lane far enough in advance...and wait your turn like everyone else..and courteously use your signal like other mere mortals. Driving a unique car just makes you stand out even more as a jerk. No wonder so many think Porsche drivers are pricks! Don't ruin it for the rest of us that drive like adults.

I find that people are more aggressive towards me while in the SC. Boy racers wanting to go and the like. What really surprises me is the number of people that will ride your bumper (even in residential areas and playground zones) while doing the speed limit.
I had a guy three feet off my back bumper in a SUV in my neighborhood. Car was cold and I was doing the speed limit. After about a mile of that, I tapped to light up the brake lights (didn't decelerate in any way, just saying WTF?) and the guy went ballistic!
Wheeled it around the next corner onto a major road, when the guy caught up there was an exchange of fingers. He must really hate 25 year old cars!

as a married man one thing comes to mind, "some times its better to know you can than to actually to do it". so to watch people drive their cars like pinheads is kinda fun. i know what my p-car can do,and some times i am the pinhead. the point to all this is i enjoy my car, fast slow and medium!

VERY good point.

I find myself sometimes driving down the highway, in the midst of other traffic and not in the passing lane, thinking "My car is a 911...I've got nothing to prove."

This is especially true when young drivers of modified Japanese cars festooned with graphics pull up next to me. Or owners of new Mustangs.

If I want to drive aggressively, I'll save it for the empty back roads of my choosing, or better yet DE's or other track events. I enjoy my 911, even when I don't drive it fast.

There is something to be said for graduating from Brit sports cars to Porsches. One learns to enjoy a well-taken corner, knowing that conservation of momentum, especially through corners, is the key to driving an old underpowered Brit sports car car quickly. The same enjoyment is available in a 911, just at a slightly higher velocity. ;)

Ok, so sometimes I'm not driving that quickly, but I'm not slowing for corners much, either.

This means sometimes I come up behind people quickly. As a result, they may think me a jerk. But I don't mean to be. Honest!

To start with, I am sorry that I have so few posts. Some people just love to read the thoughts of other porsche drivers that are expressed here(me being one).

Now to my point!

Porsche's make pricks out of many many people, some drive porsches, but most are on the outside looking in.

BUMP! Sorry but I need to get my posts number up. LOL

ToddM 12-24-2008 07:42 AM

No matter how big of pricks Porsche drivers are, they fail in epic proportions vs. the BMW crowd

I will try one more time to straighten this out before I just delete my comment. It's not that you or others don't have an insane amount of posts like me. It's more like this has been a topic many times over the years. Many times. Too many times. I figured that people with low post counts just weren't around here to read this stuff about pricks the first 100 times it was discussed.

My comment was an attempt to tell folks that before you jump in and think you've got something cool to say, it was probably said in one way or another way before now. It was just as useless then as it is now.

"Some people just love to read the thoughts of other porsche drivers that are expressed here(me being one)."

I'm pickin'up on what you're puttin' down. No, I won't say, "Do a search" if you want to read this stuff. I will say that I'm not the moderator and you can post and read whatever you like as long as they approve.

I just didn't think the site linked to about the swan had a lot to do with 911's. It was more of a site to promote the use of the f-word even having that in it's URL

I'm NOT picking on people with low post counts. You missed my point which was not a good one to begin with. There, I'm out now.

ToddM 12-24-2008 12:23 PM

Mone on Milt, you know you want to talk about it some more. You have two Porsches you must be 2x the prick. I bet theres a BMW hiding in the garage, too.

Santa Claus is watching!

:D

Doyle, as a non-practicing psychologist I can confidently tell you not to worry you are already there.

DW1, a big +1

Perception is reality for most. If they think Porsche drivers are pricks, and they have to put them down, then that's on them. I'm into a lot of different stuff, and NONE of it defines me as a person.

I also drive a lifted 4x4 truck, and when in traffic I drive them the same. I try to leave some space while in the 911 so I can see what's ahead, and to try and keep the stone nicks to a minimum. While in the truck I leave space because the brakes are not that good, (compared to the Porsche), and the thing weighs 7500lbs. Either way, people are constantly taking up "my" space, and I have to back off again.

In the car, Mustangs especially, are always trying to race me. WTF, I'm just going home, I don't need to do a 70 - 120 drag race on a busy freeway.

My original post had more to do with 911s than any of yours to this thread.

You are making baby Jesus cry. And on his birthday!
