i just broke a molar.

i broke a tooth while eating dinner. i have this tooth with a ginormous filling in it. the dentist told me ten years ago to get a root canal on it. i decided to wait until it broke, being that the procedure is more or less the same, as the dentist described it. well, it is now broken. probably about 20 percent of the visible tooth broke off and is now being digested. i didn't realize immediately that i had broken a tooth.

the upside is that the filling is still in place and the nerves do not seem to be exposed.

the downside is that it is going to take a while to get a dentist appointment. i am betting the wait will be two weeks or more.

I broke a molar with an old filling. It split in half down to the root . As soon as this happened, I knew the tooth was lost. I had an emergency extraction, and signed up for an implant, with a one year interest free loan. Word of advise: do not sign for anything, and stay out of these loans, because you can wait and save for a year before the procedure, and you can`t get out of it easily if you sign.

If is starts hurting you only have to remember one word to scream for:

Toradol

Hands down the best pain killer (and yes it does) for toothaches. You have to beg to get them & you can only take them for 4 days or so.

Just remember the name . . .

Dude, that sucks. Trust me, I have had tons of dental work done.

My dentist jokes now that he will trade me my 911 for the work he would like to do on my teeth.

Don't think so, Doc.

BTW- I broke a tooth on the last drive in the 911 this year with wcc and the gang from Motorstadt PCA. Eating a Mentos.

You really should try to get it looked at right away.

On a related note, it's a good idea to have silver fillings replaced if you have them.

This is the 21st century. Ceramics and resin for me, thank you very much. I keep gold and silver in my bank.

Broke my molar too. I waited till my next cleaning to have them check it. They ground it down and fitted me for a gold crown.
Just seems as I am getting older......everything is wearing out
Well not everything

When you have a cut-my-head-off toothache, you beg for this drug. Btdt. But you are right, you don't take it for a headache.

"I broke a tooth.............."?????????????

no wonder the pelican off topic forum fills up so fast and rolls page to page.

Next topic, I have a zit, should I squeeze and pop it or let it fester and grow?

I have a molar that has been slowly disintegrating for 3 years now. I lost almost 1/4 of it (down to below the gumline) from a freaking Wheat Thin, and I've slowly cracked pieces off since then.

My options:
1) Pay dentist obscene amounts of money to extract it and put some useless thing in it's place
2) Bar fight, get it knocked out
3) Keep cracking pieces off over years until it's gone

It doesn't hurt, so #3 it is!!

Not if they are good. Every time you rework them, you cut more tooth off. You will want to retain as much tooth as possible. If you have to get them redone, get something a bit more stable than a filling - an inlay / overlay.

Amalgam "poisoning" your body? Give me a break - I have had mine for 20+ years and I have not had any effects. Also, remember, when they drill them out, you get a lot of the filling sprayed finely into your mouth. That can't be good either, if the stuff really is so terrible for you. I know a few hypochondriacs and natural healing people that had all their amalgam fillings ripped out to cure a headache or some other strange condition. Always works great until they worry about the next thing poisoning them. Did you know that microwaves make you ill????

< end rant >

You could get a crown now, before it is messed up down to the nerve and then you'll either need a root canal or an extraction.

Your mouth must smell real nice.
