Cracklin' Knees

about 2 weeks ago my knees started to crackle. not crack, but more like crushing rice crispies as I squat down and get back up.

they don't hurt, but I can tell that they will soon. I can "feel" my knees now.

anyone have this happen to them? any physical therapy ideas?

I have that. I had have my knee scoped; scar tissue on the medial meniscus. If it doesn't hurt I wouldn't worry; probably just from getting older.

that might also be a condition on the inside surface of the patella. a friend has it and it sounds exactly as you describe. seems the surface is rather roughed up ratherthan smooth and shiny. sux getting older , doesn't it?

I get it too. Started when I was young. Not a big deal. Years of sports took their toll.

OK, thanks guys. I think rowing, running and stadiums in my youth may have caught up with me. I wouldn't mind it, but I have this bad feeling like they're going to start hurting soon. Like I said, I can feel my knees, like there are inflamed, but looking at them, they look normal.

if your not in extreme pain, most likey nothing much wrong
if the symptoms concern you, go to doc, get MRI referral and see what it shows. if something is loose and foating in there or torn and needs mending....it can be done arthroscopically. no biggie

my knees have been noisy since i was 18. im almost 40 now

We're not getting any younger, or better looking......
I think I could make a list of body parts that don't make noise, it would be shorter....
I wouldn't worry too much about it unless they start to hurt.

It has, mine have been doing this for a long time now, but their have gotten much worse (collapsing sometimes out of the blue) and I just got a referal to see a specialist again (did it 20+ years ago too). You want to catch it early, as one of my friends just had this done (yes, this is him)

I had some issues with one of my knees that made me sound like a Rice Krispies Commercial when I walked. I got it scoped and they cleaned up some rough stuff and it really helped with the pain and it stopped making the noise. It may be worth having the doc take a look at it.

I've had 8 operations on my left knee, the most recent in October. Everyday, my knee sounds like Orville Redenbacker is having a party in there.

You more than likely have a small cartilidge tear. If you are not in pain or the knee is not buckling, no worries.

I just got my 3rd injection of Synvisc in my knee. It's not Cortizone, but more like a Royal Purple/Marvel Mystery Oil lubricant for the joint. I'm not impressed yet.

I will be like Byron's friends X-Ray in a few years for sure.

Have you tried some nutritional complements such as Flex-a-min (MSM+chondroitin+glucosamine)? It lubricates all the joints, and in my case gets rid of pain. Worth a try.

Knees

My right knee makes such loud noises it startles people. Advance arthritis, no acl and I need a knee replacement but they want me to wait. Best to get it checked out before it gets worse.

Car914, don't give up on those shots just yet. I got 'em and it took a while before the knee felt better. It felt better for 6-7 months and now it's barking again, time for more shots.

My biggest fear is the other knee starts to go!!!

I'd give up all the years of soccer as a kid to have my knees work. I used to run 5Ks regularly and at least a 10K each year, but my knees said enough.

Glucosamine does seem to help, but you have to commit to taking it for a few months before you see any benefit.

Last time I checked, ones wanker and knees are not connected.

Maybe you're not getting enough sleep ( what the hell are you doing still up?)..
If it's not swelling you're doing ok ( the knee that is)
