Let all move to a more responsible world were we don't live next to rivers and oceans and in forests..
Making personal choices and asking the government or others to pay for them is not right. Not trying to be negative here - but all this federal flood insurance and private insurance companies grabbing market share and all the rest have only made these problems worse. non-union labor and cheap building materials are the root cause of higher rates
when my old house was built in 1940 it had REAL 4x8 roof beams with a hand nailed grooved wood plank roof those simply doNOT blow off even in andrews worst eye wall area nearly all post 1960 homes use plywood on 2 by truss roofs, they sure do blow off esp when nail guns are used bahamas use a shipbuild like 3 layer ply roof screwed and glued BUT our south Fla codes STILL WILL NOT ALLOW THAT TYPE OF ROOF |

I've had good service from State Farm in New Mexico and Florida. The problem in Florida, IMO, is that about half the houses (and the cars garaged or parked there overnight) are in places that just shouldn't be insured. Building along the shore or in flood zones in Florida is just plain stupid.
