People get their rumors from different sources. Danica is a widely suspect driver for the team. I was merely looking at scenarios in which USF1 would benefit from her media attention. Patrick was mentioned simply because he's American and one of the best drivers in the racing world today. Yes he was into karting as a youngster and competed in Formula Ford in Europe. Speed has stated that he would never go back to F1, so tit for tat.

I honestly can't see how this is going to fly... America is down for the count (financially) and we are going to launch a team into the most expensive form of racing on the planet? That doesn't even race in America?
I think someone is pulling our leg.

The official launch of their enterprise was today... As far as drivers go Not a big fan of Danica Patrick's road course driving ability. ![]() My hope would be seeing Graham Rahal or Patrick Long. ![]() We'll just have to wait and see But it would be very cool if they found some unknown talent out of the karting world.

Danika Patrick would not be able to hold the water bottle in pit lane for ANY F1 driver today. She is SO overrated it's not even funny.

I guess we shouldn't count out Colin Braun either. Cpen wheel champion in Europe and youngest Daytona 24 Hour driver ever. He's a NASCAR driver right now, but anything can happen. Windsor and Anderson have stated that any American driver with the credentials is up for consideration.

I am very excited about USF1. And I love that they are doing it their way....a different, fan-friendly way. I wish them luck.
I didn't get a chance to see today's press conference but I read the transcript on SpeedTV.com. I agree with Peter Windsor (I think it was him) who said that the U.S. market is important to all F1 engine manufacturers, except for Renault, & that should help them get an engine deal. USF1 will get a lot of press in the U.S. And several of the engines are obviously powerful & reliable enough: Ferrari, Mercedes, BMW, Toyota. As for drivers, I agree with Milt -- success in Europe is critical. The tracks, the driving style, etc. I am not sure which U.S. drivers could be successful, although the team seems to think they can develop the drivers along with the car. Let's hope that is true. There are obviously talented U.S. drivers. I like Almendinger, Patrick Long (although I think he is committed to Porsche) & I think some of the NASCAR boys are talented too. I don't think Danica can cut it -- she hasn't been very competitive in the IRL road-races. I think the jury is still out on Marco &, based on what I have seen, he may be very overrated. Graham Rahal has great potential, but he is very young & relatively inexperienced. But he could be developed. I wish them luck & I look forward to watching the team develop. Let's hope it helps bring F1 back to the States & Canada, & that it raises the F1 interest in the U.S. I am really, really tired of hearing about NASCAR.

Even that isn't true. That half of Renault that goes by the name "Nissan" views the U.S. as a very important market.

On Wind Tunnel last Sunday, Windsor was saying that there was a very real possibility that they would have a non-US, but experienced, F1 driver as part of the lineup.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Coulthard in the running for that spot, as Windsor has always had great things to say about him. |

What's Jenson Button up to these days? I'd like to see him in a US based car.
