just saw a recent commercial for this site. The site is for $100K plus jobs and candidates.
The commercial shows a few small monsters "working" on a car, tearing into the hubcaps etc...Then a big monster comes along and obliterates the whole scene, sending the smaller ones running. So.....I guess they are maybe suggesting perhaps: "why pay 4 less capable guys, oh don't know, $75K/year each to destroy a company when you can pay one maybe $150 to do the job right"?? I am wanting to think that maybe the car actually respresents the hiring company. Anyone else see the commercial? Did you read it the same way? The end shows the big executive monster turning and walking down the street, leaving the car a smoldering wreck, looking for his next big position I bet. Actually would be a perfect match if the job was actually destroying cars. |
I see that all the time and didn't take it that way. You're take is funny. I'm not sure what "$100K talent" really is. I know a lot of folks making that and I wouldn't consider them "talented".

I checked it out. The first thing they want is your money before you go any further. I thought the employer paid the fee. That was a turnoff. Made me think that they are showing nothing without an entry fee. Hmmmm...

I doubt I qualify for theladders.com, I'm more suited for thestool.com and yes, that could be construed to mean more than a small elevated chair. The crap runs downhill. ;)

A friend of mine tried it. Basically they lure you in with a bunch of vague job listings that you can sort-of search for before you pay.
Then when he paid he did a search for actual jobs he could actually apply for in his field and geographical area and cam up with zero. |
Maybe he is using the search feature wrong.

100K isn't what it used to be years ago...lot's of folks make that due to inflated dollars these days. And talent has nothing to do with it, it just depends upon your field, which company you work for, and who's butt you're willing to pucker up for in many cases :).

sorry my bad, I've been self employed too long and I'm always thinking in terms of "take home" as in after tax dollars.
I guess $5K/mo take home is a little above the average then? So the "net" pay is really gross then - pun. ;) |
What I've seen of theladders.com is mixed. Some really good listings with specific/specialized positions and detailed descriptions, some total B.S., vague, obviously HR-driven, doublespeak-laden stuff too.
"$100k and up talent" generally means someone who's reasonably good at what they do in a fairly specialized/niche area. It's good money, but certainly not great money. And yes, I know plenty of people who are total schmucks who make that or more (or at least they used to - dunno about these days). By contrast, a few of the best and brightest individuals I've ever known made considerably less than that. Money isn't the most important thing in the world and they were content to simply make whatever they made as long as they got to do what they enjoyed. Different strokes I guess... Nothing wrong with it. There's a certain beauty/elegance in the simplicity of not chasing dollars I suppose. As a general rule income level has something to do with talent and ability, though certainly not always. I'd say maybe 70% of the time - give or take. A lot of it has to do with simple dumb luck too. |

After doing a quick browse of the jobs in my field, they are the same positions I see listed on sites such as Dice, and Monster. Guess if I do apply for one of them, I need to ask for 100K+ because I saw it on theladders.com!!!!

You know what would be a really interesting exercise? Go through the process of seeing how one submits a listing for this site and see how it is marketed to employers.
