Some hispanic guys from the South (I think a couple may have been from Central and/or South America) that worked in the kitchen of a bar where I bartended were eating some cucumber one day. I tried it. They had salt and cayenne all over the cucumber. It wasn't bad, but seemed unnecessary.

I would NEVER dilute my good tequila with watermelon! I do recall similar antics "back in the day", but never with tequila, I think we used vodka or something. One time years ago, we were having a pool party and mixed up a batch of PJ (fruit juices, fruit, and Everclear (grain alcohol))...after the adults had finished off the liquid, some of the kids (not mine) found the leftover fruit to be quite tasty...rut roh :)!

Definately...also, salt on pineapple....trust me.

Always, it's good for a laugh to see other people get grossed out over it.

Learned from my parents, and makes it taste way better.

How about a sprinkle of salt on a draft beer? An old time thing..

I prefer salt & pepper 99% of the time myself. Considering the tomato is a fruit, most of which are sweet, not really all that wrong. Try it.

Another: Half & core an apple, spread a light layer of peanut butter on it. mmmmm:)

salt on watermelon - we used to do it. Didn't think it was that unusual...

I always salted my watermelon as a kid. I do now sometimes, I just use less now as an adult.

Yep salt on the melons.... learned it from my grandparents.... grew up in Ohio.

I also put sugar in/on my spaghetti, tacos, chili, salsa...... pretty much anything with hot or tomato sauce.

Of course chicken noodle soup gets a good squirt of mustard and on the rare occasion I get an old college filler food "Ramen Noodles", it gets a couple good squirts of ketchup.

I salt mine. My grandfather used to grow them and he would sit all the grandkids around a giant oak stump in his yard with lawn chairs and slice them in half for us, we would go at them with butter knives and salt shakers. They are fun to feed to cows too, they eat them whole and make quite a mess.

Tequila?

We do Barcardi rum. Inject into melon with hypodermic needle numerous times and let stand in refrigerator a few hours. Heaven.

I've salted many veggies, but not too many fruits. My neighbors used to always salt their pickles and pizza (not necessarily in the same meal). I'll second the peanutbutter and apple comment and also add peanutbutter and carrots.

I like salt on raw potato and tomato.
Awhile back, a Pelican salted his coffee and our local monthly meeting that puzzled me until he said it cuts the acidity.

I don't put sugar on strawberries either. Sugar doesn't make tomatoes "better", just "different" - maybe an analogy would be dill pickles being different than sweet pickles?
