Converse Or Vans
Help me settle an argument with my kids. Do Converse or Vans rule?
|
converse to some old people, vans to kids.
most kids I know wouldn't even recognize the name "converse." |
I wear only Airwalk, which is superior to both. But I'd go with Converse.
|
I was a Vans kid (80's checks), my son Ben is a Converse kid. Ben is way cooler than me.

I'm still a Converse kid. I wear these all the time.

Blue Suede Pumas
|
When I was a kid my Mom would buy my blue, canvas deck shoes from the Van Doren Shoe Company because they were cheap (made in USA back then, too). Cost: $9.00.
|
Converse.
My son has a pair of red ones. |
I had both as a kid....20 years ago.
Converse were not very well padded and uncomfortable and stiff. Vans were not very well padded and uncomfortable and fell apart. |

I have both--my 9 yr old thinks Vans rule.

Vans. Still wear them today.
|
Vans
|
Red Wing.
|
Vans today.
I did wear Chuck Taylors when I played drums, however. I was able to get great kick drum pedal speed with them over other styles. |
both! how could you choose one over the other?
|
My boys only like Vans. I prefer Sketchers.
But I do like All Stars for one purpose... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1242493686.jpg |
Nice artwork David! Now, only if that was on a pair of Vans. ;)

Ditto on the foot control. Chucks and double bass pedals, we were all rock stars back then. |
Chuck Taylors were cool in the SEVENTIES/EIGHTIES, now they simply look ridiculous. Especially on anyone over 18. Whereas the older Vans still have that outlaw/rengade/surfer look, but the new Vans, the ones with the huge padded tongues, are pretty cool, but as before, NOT on anyone over 18!

My daughter loves Converse. She has 6 pairs including her mom's blue sparkle hitops from way back. But she is growing out of her existing pairs, which qualifies as A Serious Problem so we went to the mall. My son tagged along, and as he needs new shoes I suggested he get a pair of Vans slipons. The daughter insisted that he get Converse. We bombarded the boy with propaganda until he chose a pair of basic black lowtop Converse. So, in my family, Converse apparently rule.
Converse are getting popular at the kids' school. They make a transparent version that shows off your cool socks, and has a pocket for whatever picture you want to display. Another transparent one glows in the dark. Let's not forget the Pink Floyd hitops. These things go in waves. Until recently, Vans were the hot shoe. But DC, Rocket Dog, Roxy, etc are all copying Vans now. Personally, I find Vans more supportive to old-guy feet. And I like the slipons. But I have No Fashion Sense. As a kid, I think I wore PF Flyers. |
|
I have been wearing Vans for 30+ years.
|
|
Yeah, but better than the Vans are the freakin' Homer Simpson slippers!!!!:D
Sweet. |
Chuck Taylors are good shoes if you're a professional clown, or a high school drama club member of ambiguous sexual orientation.
If you're a grown man wearing checkered Vans, you've lived your best years in high school. Neither are good, but Vans have the slight edge. |
Well, I've been international for a few months now. I can tell you, hands down, the world thinks Converse are cooler. They are on the well-dressed, "hip" people of the world.
Whether you care or not is entirely up to you. :) |
Converse of course. I've worn 'em since grade school. When I heard the factory was closing, I stockpiled. Now wearing out my last pair made in the USA. Don't think I'll bother buying the made in Asia marketed by Nike version...
|
It's worth noting they are getting €59.95 for Converse in Europe right now. That's what, like $75? That's crazy.

I wore Vans as a kid, and my kid does now. I have some Converse and like 'em.

Puma 'Clyde'... I had the blue with white stripe and the lesser seen white with blue stripe. As for the Vans and Converse. Tough call... Both are good for skateboarding. Not much else. I've had them all. Vans slip-ons, lace ups, checkered, left foot mirror image of right foot, Converse low top, high top, mid top, white , black... etc, etc.... I should go get another pair of white 'Clydes'... KT |
I just happen to have a picture of me in Europe in 1984 wearing white 'Clydes'

Doc Martens for me in my younger days. I liked 'em better when they were cheaper....and not in every mall.

Converse are cooler, but now you have to call them "Chuckie Ts."

new vans are quite comfortable and kept a pair handy for quite a few years. however i THINK they have recently gone more narrow and aren't quite as nice. |
Around here, the cool geeks wear Converse. Nobody wears Vans.
