I have seen a couple kit cars that accept a motorcycle engine... I'll see if I can dig up some links (but not sure I bookmarked any of them)

Milt I am thinking and scheming just like you. It's all about less weight, getting to the Atoms power ratio is very difficult if I'll be happy with a ratio of a Ferrari or Z06. Are you thinking VW pan?

Have you considered a Lowcost Seven ? If you can weld your own frame, a miata engined Lotus clone would make a great project on the cheap.
