Engagement Photo Ideas - Need Help!!!

My fiancée and I recently visited some photographers as we make preparations for our August 1st wedding. We really liked the work of one particular photographer, and although his pricing exceeds our original budget we decided not to compromise on quality photography since capturing our special day in the best possible way is probably our biggest priority. Part of the wedding package includes an engagement photo shoot. I have never been the subject of a photo shoot, and things like this usually do not peak my interest, but the photographer was really encouraging us to take this opportunity to engage in some role-playing and creativity outside of the norm. The photographer is also a car enthusiast and had a 930 up until a few years ago. In addition to wedding photography, one of his fortes is vehicle photography. He really wants us to include the 993 Turbo in our engagement photo shoot. I am certainly not opposed to include my fiancée and girlfriend (the car) together in the engagement photo shoot. Now I am struggling with how we should dress/role-play for the occasion. I am certainly open to suggestions.

Any ideas out there???

Call me old fashioned...I'd opt for a good shot of just the two of you in a romantic setting without the car. Cars come & go...it's the relationship you're hoping will last, right?

If you use a car, don't use your own. JMHO. I hope that makes sense.

pwd72s - This car does have some significance in our relationship... 1st date, 1st kiss happened in the car, etc... You do have a point and it is about the two of us. There will certainly be pictures taken during the shoot without the car. We already have some ideas for those.

I think a number of non-themed and non-car photos too. It's a little bit like wedding photos of people in the '70s. 30 odd years latter they make you cringe LOL.

A good idea is to also (keep the high end photog) have a lot of your friends blasting off a lot of photos and include these in your collection. I think these are the best ones.

AND congradulations on getting married

I really like the first one. I'd like to include a photo of my car in our pictures as well. Too bad the thing doesn't move, unless it is pushed

Paul I don't think the shot with the car would be the ONLY picture they would keep. Just one of many.

BTW I am also getting married on August 1st this year. There is another pelican (from Australia I believe) getting hitched 8/1 in Maine as well.

I don't care for the post processing done on the first photo. I agree with others that say forget the car and the themes. As well as highly stylized shots. The focus of the shot is the relationship between you. The car detracts from that, no matter how much of a part it has played.

The great wedding photographers are able to catch the bond rather than the players. It is an art.

Go simple black and white of just the two of you. The pics with cars in them are gay. Keep one of those for the two of you.

The emphasis must be on the people.

My wife works part-time for a photographer that has some very creative ideas. A few months back, she had several high-school seniors meet at the local airport, and used my airplane and three different Porsches in varying backgrounds.

Here are a few I grabbed off her website. Notice that while there are cars in the background, the pictures are all about the seniors.

Pearl white whale tail-

One more:

We had the pearl white 911, a red 944S, and my gold and blue race car. The photographer did a nice job matching the colors of the cars with the colors of the dresses.

Not sure why a couple pictures are so tiny. I'll try to resize them.

Theme shots are fun but they can be too gimmicky. My advice from 27 years of marriage is let HER decide. Its her day. My fav scripture:

If you must have an engagement photo, I'd try and get a candid/semi-candid shot. Most of the typical staged/posed photos are lame. Tell the photographer to leave the soft-focus filters at home, and to keep the post-production tweaks (like vignette effects) to a minimum. No sepia-toning either! Your job will be to relax and have fun so the shots don't look forced or unnatural.

If you want to have a 911 in the shot, you could rent/borrow a cabriolet and recreate the "everybody wants one" poster!

Lame. In 20 years, you'll look back and ask why. Take high quality pictures of the two of you. Leave the car out of it.

For the love of God man, there's really only one instruction you need here.....do what she wants. Do you REALLY care? Because she does, and I guarantee she doesn't want pictures of your car. In case you haven't noticed, the wedding is NOT for the man.

Okay... although the pictures with the car were only going to be a portion of the photo shoot, it seems the consensus is to drop the idea completely.

Mixing Women and cars is dangerous territory I would say no.

This guy will lose the Wife, Girl Friend and both cars but it's a great shot

I think it is a good idea. As you stated the car has a part in your relationship so I don't see why you shouldn't include it in a few photos. I think if you had a few pictures with the car in it you may look back on them in 20 years and think about what a nice car you owned, your kids can also look at it and see that their dad was once young and care free enough to enjoy a nice sports car.

Since the photographer offered and has experience with similar shoots I think it would be a shame to leave the 993 at home, just makes sure it is spotless. While it may be her day I don't see anything wrong with having a few photos that you like.
