Looking for old kitchen cabinets

I need cabinets in my garage and was wondering where I might score some old kitchen cabinets. I tried garage sales but haven't been able to find any. Is there a boneyard for these things or would one just luck out at garage sales or craigslist?

Habitat for Humanity Restore!!!!!

Look in your yellow pages for the location. These are awesome places for this type of item.

Plus, the money goes to a good cause.

Be warned, you may find yourself sitting on a sofa that takes you back to when you were young.

Garage
Many people put the old cabinets in their garage when the new ones are installed in the house. At garage sales, you can see if there are old cabinets installed in the garage and make an offer...

Are old cabinets worth something at a later point? My parents have some in the garage that I think are from the 1940s. They have big round drawer pulls.

Look for apartment buildings that are getting rehabbed.

An uncle gave away all the cabinets from a 100+ unit apartment complex. His former cabinets are in garages all over the entire county.

Best old cabinets are metal, made by GE. All steel, with wire shelving. I scored some uppers in a house we remodeled. Powerwashed & painted, looked like new.

Frankly, most of the cabinets we've ripped out were crap. Or would take too much work to re-configure. Costco/Sams clubs have decent prices & items for garage storage and workbenches.

Do you know any contractors? If so, might ask them if they're going to be doing any kitchen remodels.
+1 on craigslist as well.
there's also an outfit (name escapes me) that contractors give stuff to that they then resell, rather than it all ending up in a landfill. There's one in Berkeley...

too bad you are not in town. My crew will start ripping out a perfect kitchen in 3 weeks. 1950's solid birch plywood in really great shape. Buy them at OSH or costo. that's way to go.
