A lawyer would have field day with that...

"Oh, so you confronted someone with a gun drawn? How exactly were you not looking to use deadly force in the defense of property then? What exactly were you planning on doing with that gun?"

FWIW I wish more people WOULD just shoot thieves dead. It would start fixing the problem, but of course our system doesn't want that. They want to have justification to keep siphoning money out of everyone's pocket in order to subsidize ineffective (and expensive) law enforcement efforts. Allowing the citizenry to be self-reliant only means people are less dependent on the government and its employees - and that cannot be tolerated.

Sounds like you were asking for it. Not terribly wise.
Putting 3000 dollars worth of stereo equipment in a car that is worth 2500 dollars, now that is not very wise. Trying to explain to the insurance company that the car is worth 5500 dollars priceless.

Will's piece spelled out the logic that we as a population make a deal with government that if the government protects us and prosecutes and punishes evildoers, we, Society, won't act as vigiliantes. We government shirks its responsibilities, we should reclaim our right to be vigiliants.

What's the world coming to?
It appears the world is coming to your neighborhood looking for unlocked vehicles.

In other words, "easy pickin's."

Enter the new millenium with the rest of us and lock that thang and you'll stop 99.5% of it from occurring.

BTW, the fact that they had to come IN YOUR DRIVEWAY to do it is nuthin.' That's just a few extra steps... they couldn't care less they were trespassing.

.22LR is a deadly round, especially in the hands of a good shot. My Wife's Great Uncle helped take out a German squad. He was out of .45 rounds for the rifle, all he had left was his .22LR HS. The Germans died, he lived.

Game Wardens in Texas will tell you the .22LR is the calibre of choice for poaching.

$3000 of stereo in ANY car is ridiculous. Unless you're building one of those setups they use at car shows to demonstrate what can be done with all the latest razzle-dazzle equipment, I fail to see how it would EVER be a good idea.

Hell, if I had ten million dollars and a Lamborghini, I still doubt I'd put $3000 worth of stereo in it. Heck, my 911 has the best stereo a 911 can have - NONE! Music by Porsche!
