The Lunch Counter?

The family stopped in a place today (off the highway in Frederick, MD actually) and had a slice of pie and the kids some grub. This was one of those old timey places that everyone sat at a big counter and the waitresses were in the middle. The kind of place you see in every commercial on TV. You also see them during election cycles where the candidates drop by and the whole town seems to be there eating a leisurely breakfast. These places must really exist, but I grew up in the burbs of DC, so I'm not used to seeing a place like this. Do you have something like this in your town? What's it like?

There's a place we go to sometimes called The Depot in the Austin area of the city that's like that. You can sit at the counter and they cook everything right in front of you. It looks like it's right out of the 50's. All of the prices are "train times", like meatloaf is $6.04 and stuff like that. 3 employees. It's pretty cool and quaint but then you walk outside and worry about getting mugged or stabbed, but I digress.

Uncle John's in downtown LA. It's old and kinda messy. Cheap grub, very good and lots of it. Mostly chinese food, the spicy pork chops are excellent, but they will make you a burger and fries too.

The Apple Pan in West LA is another good one. Burgers and Pie.

Not a lunch counter... a burger joint with some seating outside.. most peeps eat in their car...

It is a place where there is a secret language spoken when you order.. not as anal as Starbucks..... But you can pick out the non-natives easily!! Its all good though..

The All American

Then there is a place I worked at as a teen... I shucked so many clams I developed an allergy to clams...

Funny schiess... The Jagnows... a good ole German Family running a seafood restaurant in Freeport , NY...

I my dad was friend with Otto, Ilona his daughter is my age..she could kick my ass easily..

enough reminiscing...

In Lebanon, Oregon it's called the Korner Kitchen. Yep, spelled with K...that korny. Located right across hwy 20 from city hall...Hwy. 20 is the town's main drag...Good place for a plate of ham n' eggs, a burger, chicken fried steak, biscuits & gravy, etc.

she's nothing. I used to eat there in '65 when the waitress wore a semi sheer white dress with colored bra and panties. Might as well have just put on a bikini. And she was hot. Got lots of tips.

Remember, this was '65! I think eggs, potatoes and toast was $.85.

One of my faves is "Pete's Kitchen", and it's less than a block from one of my fave P-Car shops.

Pics or ban

I love small town cafes and lunch counters...Southern Maryland, because of it's fishing heritage (must be off the water by 1000), has a ton of places: Monks, Suzies, etc.

Love me an Adam & Eve on a raft.

That would be the Town Grille here in Jefferson City. I have breakfast there every Saturday morning. Sit at the counter.

You beat me - on East Colfax.Thought of Pete's when I saw the title of the thread.

Storz Garage on Colfax and Vine. Started going to Storz when they were on 17th and had Janis Joplin's psychadelic 356 in the 'showroom'.

My office is 5 minutes away.
