Well if you do research a lot of the updates that are shoved onto apple users are to keep you from using your ipod/iphone on any system other than apple. I was given an Iphone 3g and I had to update the firmware to 6.15 (Ipad) to unlock the carrier option. This feature was removed by simply updating to 4.2.1, which you can not go backwards from. I don't use Itunes to manage that phone I use linux, and it functions like any other MP3 player. I love the hardware apple has but the software...............

Rick the updates that keep you from unlocking the phone are IOS updates, not iTunes.

Rick V 11-06-2011 04:53 PM

When you connect to itunes and it asks do you want to update, you get those

porsche4life 11-06-2011 04:55 PM

Those are ios updates, not iTunes updates. iTunes is merely the channel by which you get them. You can tell it no.

Porsche-poor 11-06-2011 05:00 PM

you guys are scaring me. I wanted an ipod but maybe not now....

porsche4life 11-06-2011 05:09 PM

Get the iPod, load it with music and be happy. As long as you aren't trying to make it do things it wasnt designed for you are fine. Pay attention to prompts in iTunes and you won't have issues.

Music I can jack into the car thats all I want.

porsche4life 11-06-2011 05:57 PM

Got some kind of audio input in the car?

I beg to differ. Vehemently.

It's not firmware or IOS updates that are being pushed, it is, in fact, patches, updates and new revs of iTunes that're causing the problem. Over. And. Over. And. Over. Everytime, it's something new.

Moral of the story is, if you buy an iPod, and it works, then never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever (and might I say EVER) let Apple push an update.

I'm pretty confident that those cork snorklers at Apple comprehend the meaning of "regression testing".

Anyway, to each his own.

Apple's best traits are design, marketing and planned obsolesence. Do those things well, and you can convince your minions that FORTAN or Assembler is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Every software company is guilty of pushing out patches or updates that fuch something up, somewhere on everyones PC. HP, Microsoft, Sun, Oracle, Cisco, and yes, Apple. Yet somehow, Apple seems to be the company that both the company and the cultists believe can do no wrong. It's the user's fault. Attenuation anyone?

Every fuchin time iTunes updates (and either my wife or I forget our rule or mindlessly pass over the "Do you want to updgrade - if so, come hither so I can pork you in the keister with a baseball bat" question, something always goes tits up. And I waste more time solving another issue.

I have spent more time fixing more Apple fubars in the 5 years i've owned an iPod and an iPhone than i have in years I've owned intel/microsoft based PC and devices.

Screw you Apple. You're a bunch of plastic zombie fucher douche holes.

From a design perspective, they're lovely and I respect them. From a performance and software perspective they can lick my pucker.

Yea, Apple LOVES to break things that users managed to work around. The new iOS5 broke my wireless print function. Before 5 we could print from iPhones or iPads to my Windows computer's printer. After the "upgrade" that is no longer working.

yes the RDX has a built in jack for external input. I can hook any mp3 player to it or even my droid x can stream pandora when pandora works.

Icemaster 11-06-2011 06:56 PM

Don't get me started on the IOS updates that get pushed thru iTunes.

Anyway, it's a beautiful night. And the issue is fixed.

Apple has great design. They offer a upgrade and it sounds great. I do like the features of the new iOS5. There is no doubt that Apple wants me to buy a Airprint printer. That ain't gonna happen. I will wait for another hack to make the print function work again. Until then I will just send the file to my PC and print it from there.

Hopefully no eatrhquakes tonight!

Two nights in a row is enough.
