You know what , I am also ashamed that I even got involved in that thread. My post was not meant as an attack on anybody, and I hope it was not interpreted in that way. I usually just stay away from those threads once they go nasty , don't know why I even touched my keyboard. .
I was a little surprised to see physical threats . I don't think I have ever seen that happen on the board before. I stay out of parf though.

Flieger 11-07-2011 10:12 AM

I never go to parf.

I read the first post of that thread when it had just been posted and did not understand it so never went back.

And now I never will.

At least you were arguing a valid point Stijn. Frankly, both N! and Randy were overboard. There's culpability on both sides.

Normy reminds me of they guy who went on a tirade about his reloader, Snowman I think it was.

nynor 11-07-2011 10:21 AM

oh, normy has a history of making physical threats. i've been threatened at least three times on this board. one of them was in the 951 section, if you can believe that.

anyway....

sid, las vegas is only about 1.5 hours from st george and there is a really cool gorge you drive through on the way there.

Flieger, it sounds wonderful. I love nature in all forms. I suppose you are not very far from the areas where my favorite trees grow - red wood, particularly mammoth trees.

RKDinOKC 11-07-2011 10:29 AM

ha ha ha, 951 thread wars.

Flieger 11-07-2011 10:29 AM

There are a couple Redwoods not too far from here but they are rare. The REALLY big ones, the Sequoias, are quite a ways north, north even of San Francisco. California is a very big and (naturally, geologically) diverse state.

Right.

Dave?

:D

One thing I would like to see is the Northern Lights. Can you see them where you are Markus or is there too much light pollution?

no kidding. i was fairly taken aback that the guy went that far. interestingly, i don't think he has posted again. he wasn't banned, either.

+1 on the bird pictures, BTW. i love roadrunners. hummingbirds are my favorite. i have three hummingbird feeders all summer and i plan to expand to five next spring.

Vacation Update...

New brain in GTS seems to have solved both the eating programmable chips AND the loss of power.

livi 11-07-2011 10:40 AM

As far as I understand that phenomenon is mostly seen above the polar circle so you would have to go to the northern most part of Sweden. I am at the south.

Dave? :D

Vacation Update...The Ticket

Got a tourist ticket in Texas for 93 in a 70, $291 ouch. It was late at night and I was actually driving the speed limit and in no hurry. Passed a pickup truck that was going 55 in a 70. As soon as I pulled back into the lane and hit my brights the left side of the road lit up flashing red and blue. Radar detector did NOT go off. He did not mention the word radar and first thing he said to me was that he was giving me a citation for speeding. When he asked if I knew how fast I was going I said I was in no hurry and was cruising 70 and only passed the truck because it was going 55. His words were he got me doing 93. I think I got an out-of-state, driving a porsche, tourist ticket.

The officer gave me some line about there being a lot of deer out, and that he had worked a fatal deer hit in that area just two days earlier. About 5 miles after being stopped a deer flashed across the road 2 car lengths in front of me. I had sped up to 80 because if I was going to pay for speeding, I was darned well going to do it.

Most likely they'd bring the truck to Vegas, preventing me from having to enter the Mormon state again.

Flieger 11-07-2011 10:59 AM

I've been working during the summer and now part time in a partnership with two other guys on a new RC car. One of the guys built this:

<iframe width="480" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ZwXhGThzXTw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

You can see him on National Geographic's Mad Scientists as well.

Flieger 11-07-2011 11:00 AM

Excuse the poor spelling of the word course.

That was not me who took the video.

Flieger 11-07-2011 11:03 AM

Here is a trailer for his show:
